all that need saying about today is we have been found out and the system is`nt working,teams are just sitting off waiting for the ball back,which we give them,then they hit us on the break because no one is minding the midfield and the gap between defence and midfield is lovely for the opposition,don`t think jdt has quite got the message about the english championship,no one will let you pass the ball through,he`s still approaching the game as if he`s in sweden,completely different animal over here

What a huge disappointment and anti climax today was. Perhaps I am naive but on the back of Wednesday night I expected us to win and play the style that had us all gushing about the performance. In actual fact I thought what was our strength at Blackpool was our main weakness today. The passing was slow, deliberate and in truth poor. Nobody was brave enough to try and play anything ambitious or adventurous. It was all safe passing invariably across the back line, occasionally into midfield and then back again. That is exactly the opposite of how Tomasson said he wanted to play. In fact is was more reminiscent of a Mowbray team and tactics. Hyam was good and apart from him I can't think of any other player who comes out with credit. Bristol were far better than us tactically and showed far more endeavour. Losing 3-2 flattered us. Hopefully Tomasson is learning on the job and realises this league is extremely difficult if the players aren't at it every game. Two successive home games have fallen well below the standard we expect and whilst fingers can be pointed at the players the buck stops with the manager.

Wharton looked tired today, so did a lot of our players - thats where the lack of depth comes into play.

Disappointing result, I thought we were good enough for a draw, but that's the Championship for you - Bristol City are built for it - big, strong, allowed to kick lumps out of you and look to hit you on the break. Mid-table mediocrity beckons for them.

The third went on before the ref blew on the first shot. While they scored on two counters they looked threatening throughout. Our two seemed more unlikely than their three

How many times has Dolan come on as an impact sub and done well, only to start the next few games and be completely ineffectual? Lad isn't a 90 minute player unfortunately. The way we used him today was exactly how he needs to be used.

Wharton, Dack and Hedges looked knackered from kick off to me.

Terrifying that it's Hirst, Gallagher and Vale that we have as options up front.

Any team would struggle with three first team defenders out. If Brittain, Wharton and Ayala play today we don't concede three, it's as simple as that. Scored two which absolutely flattered us, but if we'd have kept them out at the other end we end up 2-0 winners.

That said, overall it was an absolutely soulless display.

Pissed off with some players picking which games they want to turn up to.

I think it's an absolute travesty that another transfer window has gone by and we have signed a centre forward with a decent amount of experience.

Trouble is Gav given all the sh1te of the last 12 years, one can get carried away with rare moments of delirium (Wednesday night).  Don't worry, still in credit on Rovers this season and I think I will be going in heavy on Wigan next week with also a cheeky little bet on Nyambe as an anytime scorer!

Hope you have a bottle of Whispering Angel to bring you some comfort tonight - for me I'll be hitting the full bodied reds!

Interesting your comment about Wharton being tired. I had a look back at the first few pages and every poster who selected a side chose him. Sparks suggested leaving him out, so perhaps has a point. I think it would have been brave of the manager to do that mind given his performance on Wednesday, but maybe that was a decision that would have worked!

It would have been brave to drop him after the performance on Wednesday, but in hindsight perhaps he should have been dropped for Buckley for today.

Our passing was slow and ponderous up until we took the lead on Wednesday.

We look a good side when we have a lead in a match but look clueless without one.

I got carried away myself and agree the manager has to take the blame, however we won't really start seeing how good/bad he is until he has some more time with the players and when he has more options to choose from.

Fingers crossed Wharton is back for next week and we can put Carter RB and move Travis back into midfield.

Wasn't going to bet on this but Stoke at 2/1 proved too attractive.

Why is it the only position where people are happy with poorly equipped, non-specialist players playing there?

Days like today show you why teams were unwilling to meet the Brereton valuation. Granted I missed his goal, so I’m basing it on his performance up until then, but he looked more like an ineffective winger today than a 20 goal a season man.

Pickering is a mostly tidy footballer, but a terrible defender. His positional sense is dreadful.

Wharton showed glimpses but was hamstrung a bit with an early yellow that should never have been.

Lack of creativity was a massive problem today. Hedges with by far his worst performance. Dolan the only bright spark.

 

Pickering is a good L1 LB - which unfortunately means he's a poor Championship LB.

Brereton scored, again. At the end of the day that's his job and he's done it 4 times already this season. 

Apparently Hedges rolled his ankle in the warm-ups - I thought he looked well off his game today.

The injuries to the back line are killing us.

Lack of investment to the forward line isn't helping too.
