Popular Post Gav
As it looks like Sammi is about to depart for pastures new, I can't help but feel both sadness personally and happiness for the lad himself to be honest. The way he's conducted himself has been exemplary, non of this "I'm not playing, I might get injured crap" that we've witnessed over the years, just good honest graft and do you job, what a superb attitude the lad has and he deserves everything that is coming to him. For me he goes in the same bracket as Speedie and Bellamy, both had small but significant cameos at Ewood and will always be remembered fondly, even if they are unaware themselves of the status the fans hold them in. Over the years I've never been happy seeing players leave, especially players that make us a better team, but with the current 'ten bob ownership' and sever lack of ambition, I have no problems with him leaving, I'd do the same in his shoes. I wish him all the best in his next endeavour, good luck Sammi, thanks for the memories. Venkys Out - Nothing else matters.
Forever Blue
Bellamy is a good comparison, but Sammie’s no Speedie. Speedie never wanted to leave and played a pivotal role in us getting to the Prem.

He's done more for the Club than probably 90% of the players I've seen in my time. Wish he was still a Rover - seems the new MO is the minute a player does well for us he's sold - but also wish him all the best in the future.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted August 16, 2024 Moderation Lead Share Posted August 16, 2024 Sam Szmodics- my thoughts? Super footballer who played the game with the energy of a fan, a never say die attitude and the ability to differentiate from those on the terraces. One of my favourite players in recent memory, what an asset he’s been. Certainly going with my blessing! It’s a short career and he won’t be that far away from the end of his. So if he wants to move nearer to home to earn a lot more money, then fair play to the guy, I’d absolutely do the same, that’s for sure.
rigger
Szmodics was a great player for the Rovers, but I think his position will be adaquately filled by either Siggy or Ohashi.
booth
There were times last season when he was screaming at the rest of the team to get stuck in. We would have been relegated without him. It's not just his goals we've lost, it will be difficult to replace his personality and effort.

tomphil
Very best of luck to Samuel Szmodics thanks for giving it your all at Rovers and hope he smashes down at Ipswich in the Prem. Ipswich i reckon have a gem here if he gets a chance. By the way iv'e always found Ed Sheeran and his warbling annoying and this is all his fault, stick your shirt sponsor money up your ginger hole Ed !🤣

not exactly Scarface
It's a good deal for us. Good price, an exciting player, whether he can bring that Championship form from last season into the Premier League remains to be seen but he's someone I've wanted to bring on board here at Portman Road for some time now. We've made a number of new signings since end of season in hope to strengthen the side and now that we've all but got Smodzics, (then) some of the others now don't seem entirely necessary. But - you've been done over I'm afraid. 9 million for a player of that potential and shown ability, it's a derisory fee for Rovers fans and you've every right to feel anger or injustice. We signed Hutchinson from Chelsea a few weeks earlier on a proper deal after a loan spell and for twice the amount but I don't feel he's quite as exciting a prospect as Smodzics. The fault lies with your owners and directors for allowing the player away so cheaply. All things considered and in today's market where it's often hard to put an actual valuation on any one player I would have expected to see Smodzics leave for nothing less than 15 million and think that was the original price you put on the player but your owners have obviously reneged on their initial promise and allowed the player to go for a cut of the intended fee. It's great for us of course but there's a player there who's worth considerably more than that. We've now got forward players I feel we just don't need. Delap is supposed to be a big signing but questioned it from day one and with Smodzics now in the team how often will he even start or feature. Others like Harness, Ladapo, Al Hamadi for example can contribute but with some of the better attacking potential we now possess, just can't always see them needed. I think we'll do OK next season in the EPL. Won't be whipped each and every week and would hope to give a good account of ourselves or even provide some respectability to our involvement back there again. 2

Worth noting, whilst I agree you've got a fantastic player - and importantly, person - you where the only club in world football that bid the asking price for him. So whilst I agree with the sentiment, to say the fee is 'derisory' simply doesn't make sense. If it was a derisory fee then we'd have been batting off bids.

corb691
Absolutely earnt his move, he goes with my blessing as he kept us up with this goals. I personally think 9mil is a good deal for a 29 year old who lets be frank, has had one prolific season in his entire career however, it's a shame JE won't see any of it. We've been here before: Rhodes, Gestede, Armstrong, Brereton Diaz etc... We have a habit of quickly finding someone to step up to fill in the void. If you look at the players I mentioned before, they never really kicked on after leaving Rovers, I hope it works out better for Sammie but he'll be playing in a struggling team against opponents of a higher level and will be back in the Championship next season in my opinion. Who will fill the void? I'm not so sure, I'm not convinced Dolan will step up and the new boys are still abit of an unknown. While there is no guarantee we will sign a 'replacement'.
