Szmodics is a more effective player now, but Hutchinson has another big sale or two if he does well, Szmodics doesnt. I continue to find it bizarre about people don't get the basic concept of how the xfer market works these days. It is a rapidly inflating market due to the amount of money (which is always increasing). However running counter to that is FFP which clubs need to be aware of. The result? A heavy premium on young players for both their re-sale value for ffp purposes, but also the natural inflation of selling players in 5 years time. SS is almost 29. A 4 year contract takes him to basically no re sale value time. So 10m with add ons is about right imo. People comparing him with 20 year olds (albeit inferior players currently), or 23 years with a season experience in the epl is just not realistic. bluebruce
Sad to see Sammie Szmodics seemingly playing second fiddle at shitty Ipswich. He's better than that.
tomphil
Had to bide his time here also but never really thought he'd fit their style, unless they've changed it. He'll fire them back into the top 6 in the Champ next season.
SIMON GARNERS 194
Another successful Rovers Player to leave and find the Grass is not Greener...there's been quite a few!
roversfan99
He has got what is likely a last career opportunity to experience Premier League football. Thats not factoring in the massive increase in wage. It doesnt in any way make it a case of the grass not always being greener just because he isnt starting every game. He has already scored at the Etihad, put it this way, he wont regret moving even 1%. Im not sure he is better than that, he isnt of a standard where he is a Premier League player at a club as a key player. No one in their right mind would have chosen to stay as the main player at a club with no ambition or imminent likelihood of promotion when a chance comes to fulfill a dream move. Even if he doesnt start again this season, he was right to make the move because it wouldnt have come again.
Tyrone Shoelaces
I get the feeling Sammi is the sort of footballer that wants to play. However I can’t see him getting much game time there because they aren’t set up to get the best out him. The bench is the best he can hope for. A strange signing on their part and a strange move on his part. Maybe they’re thinking of relegation at the end of the season.
roversfan99
Why is it strange? He was never going to walk into any other club in the Premier League and be a regular. So its either take probably his last chance at experiencing Premier League football, or stay at a middling and unambitious Championship club that he single handedly kept up from relegation to League 1 but where he is guaranteed to play every minute. Forever Blue
Jack Clarke, who they signed from Sunderland late in the window, is the one who is playing instead of him. Clarke is a better wide midfielder/winger, which is where they were playing Szmodics.

Torgeir
Think Ipswich did themselves a disfavour by dragging the deal out until it was so late. He has to adapt to their style of play and assimilate another level as well, but I think he can do it. Took a bit of time to get going here, so we'll see whether that's the case now too - and if he's given enough chances to shine.

Who does he think he is. It's Ipswich Town. It's not 1981 any more. He needs to just accept mediocrity. He turned into a clinical finisher overnight. Tough watch. I love how assured his finishes where, if it was on that left side you just knew it was getting tucked away right foot. Always a goal. It's really poor we didn't get the playoffs with him and Brereton in the team. That squad just needed a small amount of backing in January a couple of times. Slightly more in touch and willing owners would have had us back in the prem by now.
