Maguire lost his man for the goal. Goodness knows what he will be like against better opposition.

Team has looked pretty bright going forward. Can only beat what's Infront of you.

Add that to the poor attempt at a block from Stones and altogether the reason why i can't see us winning the whole thing, good start though 5-1 now

Yep, cos he's actually happy.

Unlike some of the other miserable gits- Ashley Cole, Lee Dixon, Michael Owen, Karen Carney etc - they seem like they're commentating on a funeral sometimes.

The most infectious laugh I think I've ever heard. Brightens me right up.

My word, you can't play the same goal music everytime at a World Cup. They only got one CD?

Stands out a mile when you have 8 goals in a game.

Free from desire?!....It's giving me a really strong desire to put my foot through the TV.

Wrestled to the ground = no penalty, slight shirt tug = penalty. Good to see that as usual the VAR officials are a competent group of professionals.

That is outrageous use of VAR

It's a consistency thing. How on earth that's a penalty but the first one isn't is beyond me. I don't mind what the standard is as long as it consistent. Honestly not sure how VAR officials can look people in the eye. Terrible decisions.

Looking back main differences from 18 months ago at the Euros is Belligham coming in and Saka and Rice having 18 months more experience.

We do look a lot better for it.

That said Nations League was pretty disappoining... So not wise to get carried away

As Bellingham and Rice are real physical monsters I wonder if it will mean we will give 4231/433 a go? With Kante and Pogba out theyre probably the best physical pairing ok the competition so that means maybe we can loosen up a bit in competitive games?

I guess we'll find out against Wales.

If you need alcohol to have fun and have a good time then you need to re-evaluate your life, but i don't agree with promising Alcohol sales then taking them away so late.

If only Carlsberg did fun and good times.

Back 4 isn't good enough to win this tournament.

Bellingham is good, but he's desperate to play as a 10 which leaves us short in midfield. How Foden doesn't start is beyond me too.

England performances in past tournaments have usually driven me to drink,it's nice for once to have a celebration drink instead

I think Rice made one bad choice in the whole match but even then he received a poor pass when he was going towards our goal.

He and Bellingham were immense.

Good result that can only be a confidence builder, just what is needed in the opening game of a tournament.

Spectacular attacking play. Saka magnificent, and so many others did great.

Defensive shaky, but the biggest offender was VAR. Absolutely no sense how Iran's situation was a penalty while Maguire and Stones both being brought down in 2nd minute wasn't.

Professional and enjoyable display without breaking a sweat. Good to see us scoring six goals and not relying on Kane to stick them in the onion bag.

Some open defending by us at the back could have seen Iran with three goals in spite of how abysmal they were. That's a slight concern, although perhaps we were playing a little too confidently as the game wore on. We won't have it as easy as that against USA and Wales.

It's not so much that VAR gets decisions wrong but rather that those decisions are 'manufactured', I would say corrupt but I'm far too polite.

I did wonder this. Had it not been 6-1 I do wonder would it have been looked at.

Best we’ve played for a while. Bellingham makes the difference in midfield. How that one was a pen and the first one wasn’t - I don’t get that at all. I’d be pleased if all holding at corners and free kicks was penalised it’s a blight on the game.

Nothing wrong with VAR itself, just the people in charge of it. Not sure what happened to 'clear and obvious errors' but a kneecap being offside ain't it, whereas getting wrestled to the ground is. And yet...
