Yesterday football now.

Clubs have recruitment departments with head of recruitment and Director of football in place now.

Reel it in.

Our recruitment department is a set of misfits we've plucked off LinkedIn or via adverts on indeed, or friends of friends.

Rotten to the core this club.

Based on the summer I'm not expecting much.

Brittain - always injured
Szmodics - lower end of the Champ standard, at best
Morton - inconsistent
Hirst - awful, a younger Chris Brown
Mola - out of his depth

Hyam is the only signing who has had any kind of positive, sustained impact.

So yeah, after a pretty dire summer window the Broughton and JDT duo have a lot to prove.

Nah,

1x top signing - Hyam

3x good signings - Brittain (would be with Hyam but for injuries), Morton & Szmodics

2x poor signings - Hirst and Mola

So 4 out of the 6 have / will improve us. I’d say that’s pretty good all being told.

I reckon we need another 6 and some dead wood out over Jan and the summer.

RB cover, LB cover, Top CM, LF to replace BBD, ST to challenge Gally and RF. So basically 4 players to improve 1st eleven and two to cover 👍🏼

I think its incredibly generous to imply that a couple of million on a League 1 standard player and an underwhelming loanee who wasnt what we needed in that position are good signings. Average at best. Brittain has been decent enough at right back but its little use when he is made of glass but even when he hasnt, he has often been used out of position and for a bit of context, a player we had all written off has put in the best 3 performances that we have seen from a Rovers right back this season.

Hirst and Mola have been beyond poor too.

Whatever happened to the Jack Hixon’s  of the football world.

No one would take any notice of him now.

They have to present an ipad full of stats and graphs and predictions, be about 22 yrs old a fresh out of Uni with a sports degree.

That's a modern football expert and it's a whole industry of its own now that is costing clubs and arm and a leg. Whilst i'd wager in many cases not giving much in return to a lot of clubs.

Wasn’t it reported earlier this season the we spent the least in the league on agents fees in the last 12 months?

That signing seems sus to me. Not even like he was a young sensation that we took a gamble on. Signed him, loaned out straight away. Doesn't make much sense to me.

FYI - I’m not saying that Morton and Szmodics are world beaters but I do believe that they have both improved the group and played a positive part in the position we find ourselves as the third best team in the league over 24 games.

Brittain, for me is the best RB we’ve had for a decade. In the games I’ve seen him play he’s been our best player. But for injuries, he’d be rated higher than Hyam as a new signing. Great to see JRC re-emerge…I always rated him as better than Nyambe. Hope his form continues.

For context we could also add the likes of Hedges, A.Wharton and Phillips into the ‘new signing’ mix because they have been given their opportunity by the regime and contributed positively to our current position. Fair to say, none of them would have played much, if at all this season under Mowbray.

All of the above leads me back to the opinion that there’s only two players - Hirst and Mola, who have failed. They’re the only two that haven’t made a positive impact on the group.

It’s a simple enough process if we just focus on the squad list last summer. at the point where JPvH, Khadra, Rothwell, Lenihan, Nyambe and Bradley Johnson walked out of the door. Fixate on that point, then look at the additions and consider our current position.

Honestly, considering they came in late, the current regime have done a bloody good job in my eyes. Many of us were fearing a season at the bottom of the division knowing all those players were leaving.

It was a weird signing. But I guess we don’t have all the information 🤷🏽‍♂️

We’re not getting yesterdays results out of the system though are we ?

I got the result out of my system as soon as I was at work that night. I don't carry angry or disappointed for long after bad results.

I just had a look at their site. Matt Jansen is their player liaison officer apparently.

Yes he is there.

I think he had a trial where he did well before he signed here

Very good points made here Paul. One of the best post I've seen on here for a long time

Tom Sutton joined from Oxford. Luke Griffin from Hibs, Gus Williams from the Welsh FA, Luke Evans from Swansea, Paul Aladejare joined from Arsenal.

Not a set of misfits that you suggest is it?

Rovers advertised the job on their website and on a number of recruitment websites which is the normal surely?

3 points from the last 15 is more pertinent.

Various stats also point to us being likely to tank fairly brutally now that lady luck has deserted us. The league is so congested that within a month we could easily be 15th and I fully expect that by February we'll be out of the top half unless JDT has a major rethink about how he's going about this. @JoeHmay be able to provide more reasons for optimism, but all the stats I've seen suggest we're due a major readjustment in terms of league position.

It’s relevant for sure, one win in 5 is worrying form, but not surprising. Go back to my post on the summer leavers and it’s clear that we were alarmingly short of players and backfilling with U23’s. So it makes sense that even with the incomings, a few injuries and poor form of Travis, BBD and Gallagher (Key players) we’re now struggling.

Don’t imagine there is but I’ve not seen any whispers of an incoming as yet? Anyone got any rumours at all?

I’d be sending Hirst back and replacing with a striker who has any kind of attacking instinct whatsoever. There’s some good strikers in the European lower leagues, we need to try that market out.

I’d also be signing a CM to replace Morton, gets away with absolute murder for us. Travis has been shocking recently but for my money Morton has been even worse. 5 touches before the ball goes anywhere, gives it away in awful positions and absolutely no bite at all. If we weren’t so short on numbers I’d send him back too.

At least one, if not 2, out and out wide men. Need some pace. Our wide men are make shift wingers, we have one player in the whole club you could say is a natural winger in Dolan. Problem is, will we play a system to accommodate them?

Think it’s obvious to see we need a cover RB and new LB too, but think we’ll be waiting until summer for them.

Agreed. I think we all thought we had gone into this season a little light. I suppose the question is why...Why are Venky's always late to the party...why were they so slow in moving on from TM?

A good window is vital...

Super sub Matty D, wish we had one now.

I remember my mate saying when Allardyce took over first thing he'll do is bin off Derbyshire, he wasn't far wrong.

He binned him off for that monumental fuck up against City at Ewood. He never played for the first team again after that.  I’d have done exactly the same - a brain dead bit of play. I hope he’s smarter now.
