He's the exact same age (born literally the same day) as Jamal Lowe who you said we should "definitely" take on, a few hours back.

The exact same height as well (though I'm struggling a little on whether that's also relevant or not...)

Difference between a loan player to add some quality from the Premier League, than a costly permanent addition from League One to directly replace our best player. IMO.

With transfers, as with many things in life, context is everything. No two players are the same and very rarely are players situations ever the same.

Whilst it is true that JCH is an ageing player, it's more meant in the context that Rovers have a fairly clear policy of signing permanent players with high ROI potential.

The fabled ‘ROI’ model. Been hearing about it for years now, AA aside, are we actually ever going to  see it in action? Or are we carrying on with the ‘buy low (well apart from BBD and SG), let go for nowt’ approach?

What a stupid argument for not signing a goalscorer in his prime.

Fair point that. He misses some howlers, but he's still feeding off next to nothing.

Cole was a goal machine, but he was infamous for needing a hatful of chances before he scored. If you stuck prime Cole in this team he'd look shite.  I think we have good strikers (for this division), good defenders and keeper. But a woeful midfield. Fix that in this window and we will get into the playoffs. If we don't it'll be a midtable finish imo.

What we lack is any kind of service from out wide. Any width is provided by forwards who then can't get on the end of their own cross.  It's a daft system unless you have wing backs bombing up and hitting the byline. Ours don't.  We either need genuine wingers to play the wide roles or better wing backs.  Either way its where our issues lie.

I was genuinely surprised how good Cole was.  His all round game was excellent.  That might have come with experience as he was approaching the twilight if his career but he was  a bloody good forward.

You don't play for Alex Ferguson for nearly 200 games if you're a mug.

Their achievements are even more astonishing then? Repeat---we get the same crowds (or better)---why can't we do it?

Brighton nearly dropped out of the football league in 1997 and sold their ground. They were in League One in 2010. Now they're out of sight for us - we're literally begging for the scraps off their table this transfer window with JVH. Sadly they're a fantastically run club.

I was at the game when they had to get a result to stay up. It was the only year that the league had changed the rules from goal difference to goals scored to decide league positions. Hereford went down with a better goal difference.

It stank then and still does.

The same Bournemouth who regularly attract under 10k

It's all about crowds and ticket income we keep being told, nothing to do with actual owners ambition.

Mind you they all live on Sandbanks and pay a 1000 quid per season ticket !

He was top drawer and tailored his game as he got older and slowed down.  You could play off him almost as good as an Alan Shearer.

We've had some incredible strikers over the years. Going back 30 years, and yes some were past their prime but shearer, yorke Sutton, Cole, Fowler, Bellamy, dahlin, sukur, roque santa cruz, Mccarthy, Gallagher. Now we have players like hirst and Sam Gallagher
