January Transfer Window.

I have to admit if we Porteous will be delighted be a fan of his for a while and we have seem to be constantly linked with him for several years. Daniel Ayala has been fantastic this season but in November will be 33 i wouldn't renew his contract and we may save a few quid on the salary as well.

Gelhardt looks like a decent player going forward but isn't a striker which with Diaz returning i am less worried. The main issue for me is we are missing a Lewis Travis at his best, someone to throw in the tackle and push the midfield to fight for every ball. Garrett will become a decent player but we need someone to really bring the fight in the midfield area. Morton has been decent but isn't the aggressive player we need. I feel like the reason we lose these matches is due to a lack of intensity and confidence sometimes. I feel like Dack has been an incredible support to the team since returning, but we need more players like him who take responsibility.

I know it won't be a popular shout....Whiteman could be available from the nobbers.  Watford are interested.  He'd be a perfect fit for us.

He would be out of our price range with 1.5 years left on his contract wouldn't he? I'd imagine PNE would want £3m+

Mowbray missed the boat on this one unfortunately.

I'd just add - I had a look on the PNE board and I thought this place was a circus at times......if I'm reading it correct, some ITK leaked news about Whiteman/Watford and he's claiming Ridsdale has now suspended his Spurs ticket and taking legal action because of it. Haha imagine Waggott cancelling one of our tickets and taking legal action because we leaked a transfer rumour

In response to Paul Mani, who else should we blame other than Broughton for a failure to bring in anyone thus far this window and a very poor window in the summer incorporating dreadful signings like Szmodics, Mola and Hirst the latter of whom was apparently "our main target" despite having a record of 0/32 at Championship before coming here!

If Watford are interested then he’s not coming here. Good player and exactly what we need in the middle of the park.

I think there is a good chance he goes back to Wigan. Maybe the hero of keeping them up is one for the CV. He lives there, knows the club…

You could say the same for us about getting us promoted “we wish”…Will he be a guaranteed starter for us? I would but would JDT think the same?

Me too. They have done a bit of business already and certainly aren’t hanging around. It still seems too early for us to pull our finger out on any signings unfortunately.

Exactly what we need at the moment, unfortunately I can’t see it happening.

If he goes to Watford maybe they can send Choudhury back to Leicester, who in turn can loan him to Rovers by way of an apology for inflicting Hirst on us.

This window won't be helped by the lack of funding combined with the insistence by the owners to let Brereton run his deal down.

Morton has started nearly every game (think he has the most starts this season outside of Kaminski and maybe BBD), yet has yielded just 1 paltry assist and 0 goals, that's nearly 2000 minutes of football.

We simply must do better, I could see him as a luxury in a top team that dominates possession and has 6 creative players ahead of him. But we are not that. He slows down play, has no physical attributes (speed, strength, power) and has very little attacking creativity. I'm yet to see him carve a killer pass (see Adam Wharton vs Hull). It's always just the simple sideways 5 yarder, or a long over the top chaser.

1 assist/goal all season from the most played central midfielder in a team has to be the lowest in the whole league.

As my wife once said about a scrum half my rugby league team had just signed - “ He looks like his legs are pinned on to the bottom of his shorts “

He doesn’t look like he could snap a “ Kit- Kat “. A real luxury player. Back to old maxim - there are players that get you on top in a game and then there are players that start playing when the first lot have got the team on top “. Guess which group he’s in.

Don't think Szmodics has been awful for us, he at least puts in the miles to run and tries to affect the game i think the issue is he hasn't settled into the system yet but there is still time for him to get better.

What’s this system of which you speak ? What I saw on Saturday is we pass it around at the back for a minute or two then we either lose the ball in a dangerous area or we lose patience and launch it long to nobody in particular. Gallagher stood there saying “ Is it a bird, is it a plane ? “ No that round thing coming your way is the fucking ball !

Whiteman is a solid Championship midfielder and much more effective than the likes of Garrett but he won't be coming here, we don't want competent, experienced midfielders "blocking pathways" nor could we afford him.

He’s about to turn 27 and would be asking for a, *shock horror*, 3 year contract, the cheek of it!

So that’s all GB’s red flags in one!

Looks as though there is something in the Gelhardt talk.

Looks great on YouTube videos - don’t they all! But he does appear to be very technically proficient. His goal scoring stats don’t make for great reading, but I’m presuming a lot of his appearances are going to have come off the bench, plus no team is going to loan out a player who is scoring regularly. Hopeful optimism rather than hysteria, although the fact other clubs appear to be in for him puts us at a disadvantage… we always dither.

He looks very similar in style to a lot of the midfielders already on the books (although MAYBE better?).
Surely we need a central striker that can play the target man.

Even if it isn't a Danny Graham style target man, which I don't think would suit us anyway, surely the aim has to be someone who specialises as being a main striker. This "flexible attacker" bollocks is nonsensical.

Similar to last Jan when Mowbray refused to sign a No.9 on loan.

It's the current fascination with keeping possession and not being hit on the break. Having a striker would mean having someone in the box to get on the end of things, but we can't have any of that nonsense because we need people outside the box to stop the counter attacks. Football is very dull these days 'in that way'.

Believe me, we have nobody at the club in his class.  He isn't a midfielder either.  He's a number 10, or a right or left attacker in a 3

This “ stopping counter attacks” worked well at Rotherham. Trying to not give the opposition the ball would be a good start.
