Pathetic. We've missed out on a quality midfielder because some forgot to fill a form in on time.

O'Brien could have been the difference between play offs or not.

One last point on the statement - it includes ‘…the deadline for submission was late…’

The deadline wasn’t late - the deadline didn’t move at all…

I clocked that as well, they can’t even put together a well worded, grammatically correct statement, FFS

Some obvious questions for any reporter to question the CEO on the club statement:

“The club would like to update our supporters on the situation concerning trying to bring in two players prior to the 11pm transfer deadline on Tuesday, January 31. (why was this statement not put out earlier and fans kept in the dark for so long and why yet again was there no or very little communication from the club throughout the window?)

“One of the deals was a very ambitious target (what does this mean, by all accounts we were the only club in the running for O'Brien, or did he not really want to come to us or do we not consider ourselves good enough to sign this calibre  of player?) and it was only confirmed that he was able to join us late Tuesday afternoon.

“Due to the complex nature of the various agreements to be included within the overall registration, legal advisors were brought in to assist in part of the process (when were they brought in, right at the start or only very late in the process? Were they actually at Ewood working with the admin staff?. How did they liaise with the CEO when he was 100 miles away at Birmingham?).

“Despite the club’s best endeavours to complete all the required elements of this loan transfer, due to events we believe to be outside of our control (what does this mean, "believe to be outside of our control", either these events were or were not outside our control) , the deadline for submission was late (how late, 5 minutes or hours?) and despite the club stating the mitigating reasons for the delayed submission, our application has today been rejected by the EFL.

“Our application for the second deal – for the permanent transfer of a promising young player – was also delayed due to unsigned paperwork (how did this happen, was the paperwork not checked several times before it was submitted?) and technical issues encountered by the club at the point of submission (again what does this mean, did the internet go down, did the software not work, or did someone at the club not know how to make it work? This requires an explanation)  .

“Once again the EFL has not accepted these issues were an impediment to the paperwork being lodged on time and has also rejected this application."

“The club will now appeal (you appeal AGAINST) the EFL decision to reject both applications and will submit documents ahead of the Tuesday, February 7 deadline (what makes you believe the club will be successful when it appears on the face of it that the club is fault?) .”

@jim mk2, it's all futile to even bother asking. The statement is riddled with excuses. For one, technical difficulty means they hoped the technology would work in the final minute, and it didn't (internet momentarily down, email address incorrect, or whatever).

They were badly prepared, did it all late, and rushed it. That's basically it. They are utterly incompetent and an internal inquiry needs to happen to figure out who is at fault. Right now, I'd happily let JDT lead that because he's got a bloody good reason to do so.

Why would the club agree to an FA Cup replay being scheduled on transfer deadline day. What was wrong with Wednesday, the day after all the fun was over (or at least meant to be)

Why are we agreeing to pay £10m for a lad that clearly isn't Premiership quality? Not that we'd go up anyway, but why are we doing that?

I think the whole deal stinks to be honest and if I was the manager I'd be considering my position, why would he want to work with a bunch of rank amateurs?

To get the deal done and in reality the fee is quite low if we did go up we would recoup most if not all of it by either selling or loaning him back, worst case scenario it's 10mil invested to gain 120mil or whatever figure you get these days for promotion.

Roughly £134m and that excludes other money that rolls in as a result of being in the top flight (sponsorships, etc). If you can stay in the league beyond the first season then I believe that doubles.

So what a f***ing flippant way to lose your chance of getting there.

I'd be surprised if there aren't firings over this, but it's Rovers so they'll most likely get promoted.

For me there was no downside to agreeing to pay the £10 million ,you would likely get half back if you sold him to a parachute club anyway and even if kept on and not prem standard (which I don't believe he has had a proper chance to prove yet) he would be an asset if we went back down which in all probability we would.

Gutted this deal isn't happening

I am in two minds as to whether we should seek a total boycott of Monday’s match or everyone with Rovers at heart, buys a ticket and get down to support our team and vent our spleen towards the incompetents. JDT and the players wearing our shirt have done nothing wrong and deserve our backing in solidarity.

Feel sorry for the media team tbh - they should have turned the replies off on Twitter. It's not their fault.

The word is overused at times when maybe it's not warranted. This is truly embarrassing in every sense of the word. Utterly utterly embarrassing.

I wonder if we will be subject to repercussions from Forest if it’s proved that it’s all our fault (as expected). Will they be able to claim his wages from us while he can’t play for them?

Could open up a can of worms.

Would think O'Brien also not a happy bunny.  No longer in the Forest '25', career stalled for the remainder of the season and maybe also suffering financial loss (bonuses etc).

This is why there must be more to it - I know rules is rules but how can the EFL do this to one of their players - it's pretty sad. Surely there can be "mitigating circumstances" i.e "ahhh yes I see you were signing for the Rovers, they are a shit show".

Anyway if and when the worst happens he must have a legal case against us. No one would blame him.

There isn't any chance that forest/O'Brien can sue us for this.

He doesn't have a legal case against us.

It's a shit show but il eat my hat if there are any grounds for Forest/O'Brien to sue us.

Or trying to appease the fans with this ‘£10m Premiership loanee’…..

All irrelevant now anyway, piss up in brewery springs to mind.

I can't seem to find it anywhere, were we going to be paying his wages or not?

Yeah full wages but still doesn't matter we can't be sued over this.

Deals have collapsed before due to the relevant paperwork not being submitted in time.Nobody got sued.
