January Transfer Window.

Van Hecke will make it at Brighton i think, just needed a chance to show what he can do.  Was never coming here whilst he was on the books of a Prem team unless they wanted rid.  Not sure Rovers can be criticised too much in not getting him it was always a long shot.  Although for a club who claims it wants to follow the Brentford model i'd have been testing them with a hefty bid it was obvious he's a star in the making.

As for Khadra no thanks, let's see what Markanday can do.

What we need is a proper striker - not a false nine or wide forward but an actual striker and some beef in midfield.

We'll get neither my bet would be on another couple of young multi positional squaddies.

Cannon is very highly rated, obviously their plan B as they missed out on Archer. Riis has done his knee as well so they'll be very short up top.

Broughton has been here what about 8 months now? The targets should have been lined up for a while now and the business done early.

There are literally no excuses for a poor window here. Well, I say that but there's still the weird chain of command behind the scenes (I assume) regarding the twats in Pune rubber stamping things but surely things SHOULD be a little more straightforward with a DOF?

We simply don't know what is going behind the scenes tho. We don't know who targets are and whether we have made offers for them and still in negotiations over transfer terms or loans terms

That’s usually my mind set and you’re totally right…However again my point is since the start of this season we have needed re-inforcements. So in my eyes, the scouting team, DOF should have players lined up ready to sort WITHIN, the first week. We all know the saying the sooner the better…we will have the same scenario where we leave it till the last few days where all the decent loans have gone & decent players have been snapped up.

Venkeys are the issue here.

The recruitment team has been in place properly for around 2/3 months now. I'm sure we have a number of targets and I suspect most of them will be foreign players playing in Europe. We only need a couple of signings in January depending players departing in January

Jesus Christ, we’re a week into January. We’ve not even played a game since the first day of the window and won’t play a league one for another week. The obsession, and anger, fans have with transfer window activity is a bit much at times

Probably because people get their hopes up every single window and we never get business done till the last minute. The difference this time is we have a DOF and allegedly a recruitment/scouting network in place.

So yes, people are expecting results and soon. Imagine wanting people to do their well paid jobs!

Most people in recruitment in football are not well paid for me. GB most likely is of course, but that's about it. It's actually a fairly non-lucrative industry until you reach the very top

I’ve had your attitude for many seasons, always said the same to be patient. I still have that in me but only just…Again the point is we have needed re-inforcements since the start. JDT knows that. We have a recruitment team who should have players lined up and ready to snatch at the first instant. Look around you, other clubs are doing it. We just seem to sit back & back and wait and then “miss” our targets?? It’s all the same and for a team in 3rd looking to push forward just doesn’t sit right.

Sooner the better!

That's the way it should be just like most other industry.

A select few will probably end up in the higher echelons earning big money for nothing one day.

To be honest it's mainly GB I'm referring to. If he's not getting results, then why is he in place. He's obviously got a few weeks yet to come up trumps but ultimately most fans are expecting a good window and rightly so.

Go on then, who’s going to be first to say “calm down the signings are coming” this time. Then we end up with another Hirst and Mola! 😂

I think they were both cheap punts late in the window - remember Broughton and JDT didn't have a great deal of time to bring players in, we were literally trying to fill out a squad at that point. The two players JDT wanted to bring with him from Malmo went elsewhere for more money. ( Ahmedhodzic and Colak)

This is a big window in my opinion because it'll show how much influence Broughton has on proceedings. We NEED to sell Brereton-Diaz and re-invest that money - has he earned enough respect from the Venky's now to convince them to do this at a reasonable price? Time will tell (also that 20% profit clause on Brereton-Diaz's deal is absurd after paying £7m for him - Mowbray got his pants pulled down).

You can expand that to most sports to be honest. Unless you're a player or a front line coach / executive you're taking a discount on your salary for the love of the game.

Aren't a lot of the early deals completely untried youngsters on loan from the Premier League?

Maybe we want permanents? Or a better quality of loan at least.

I hope your’re right. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.
How many clubs want to sell their key players on a permanent in January? Do we have the funds? I was only really expecting a few loans in this windows…Ebiowei , dembele, Lowe are good shouts, already missed out on the first and the longer we leave the others we won’t get them either.

Of course we will have our target lists and we should stick to the plan.

Who out of the players that have moved so far do you think we miss out on?

Given that Hull boss know Ebiowei from his time at Derby it was always likely to be going there.

We don't even know who we want and what position yet. Maybe Lowe or Dembele aren't even targets for us. Rovers will have a number of players on a shortlist for each position. Not much busy is done early at this level like every Summer and winter windows.

Brereton has to be sold surely

Should have been sold in summer but crazy to get nothing for him.

the bids in the summer were far too low to considering selling him. would you have really sold for 8.4 million or 6 millions with 4 mil of possible addon's?

Nixon reckons Wigan are in for Harry Toffolo and Jack Colback from Forest.I wouldn't say no to either on loan deals here

Both can surely do better than Wigan! Corberan allegedly wants Lewis O'brien too at WBA. Really poor career moves for both Toffolo and O'brien going to Forest although obviously can't blame them for the cash.

While I agree that the trend of letting top assets walk for free I'd be quite disappointed to see BBD leave for 5 or 7 mil. We really need to be getting top dollar for our players given there age and ability.

In today's market if BBD has 2 or 3 years to run you are probably getting 20-25 mil. Even that is small money to PL teams. You get very little for 5mil these days let alone a 23 year old Chile international who is improving all the time. No brianer imo for PL teams  if he is available for 5-10mil.

Yes I would have personally sold for anything 7mill plus. I dont rate Brereton as a premier league striker. Although this would have depended on Venkys actually reinvesting the money.

Don’t mind keeping our valuation of Ben. We need to improve this window not regress. Chance for top 6. I’m in the short term thinking camp I think. If we sold him and spent money on a replacement it’s a risk whether it even comes off or not. With Ben we know he’ll score us goals in the next 5 months, so why risk this position for the sake of £5million?
