H Eatough & Son (Herbalists) Park Road

Hi guys,

Burnley fan in peace!

 

I've recently found this picture of my Granddad's herbalist shop in Park Road, not sure if it's in Blackburn or Darwen. Never met my Granddad and don't have much information about him either so if anyone remembers this shop, it would be awesome to hear about! He had it in the 60's and  70's I believe, picture below!

To be fair I actually don't know where it was, this picture was 1979, I wasn't born then! I just know he had a shop around the Blackburn area.

The Park Road sign might help you. There is a Park Road in Darwen but that unusual building is not something I recognise.

The shop was just the other side of Darwen St bridge Blackburn,after you went past Edmondsons furniture shop going towards Grimshaw Park. My grandad lived on Chapel Place where the Blackburn Arena is now and we would sometimes have a glass of Sarsaparilla there as you can see on the shop sign. Hope this helps you Reluctant Claret.

There used to be a shop selling similar beverages in Rochdale when I was kid. Long gone now though.

Yes that's exactly where it was. My mum used to take us in there for a glass on the way to pick my dad's wages up every Thursday night. He was a lorry driver for BRS, and their depot was about half way up Audley Range.

No, you have to go under the railway bridge and it is there at the bottom of Park Rd.

The BRS depot was on Copperfield Street next to my aunties house. We used to play footie against the big green doors. Last time  I was up that way it was Holdex Timber. 
Regarding the herbalist, exactly as you described OJF, I’m sure that on the same block there was a barbers run by the dad of Alan Bradshaw, Rovers player of the 60’s.

My younger brother knew Alan very well as he coached the town schoolboys teams that he played in back in the 80s.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the conversation. This shop is or was in Blackburn and owned by my uncle . In the late 1950s when I was about ten, I went up to Blackburn with my mum, dad and sister. Dad was one of seven brothers and one sister. My uncle gave me a glass of sarsparilla but I didn't like it. He sold kits to make sarsparilla posting some of them abroad  I think that all of their generation have passed on now.

There's the famous one in Rawtenstall - Fitzpatricks. Used to go there with my mum for Dandelion & Burdock. Still going although it's changed a bit since then!
