Oldgregg86
Who was that , that let the city striker waltz past him before kaminski made his balls up. I agree on the bitter worth comment , he would offer far more than vale, it’s not even close whose the better of the two. I’m going to Watford in a couple of weeks, it’s going to be another long afternoon isn’t it 😅 Edited January 21, 2023 by Oldgregg86

I watched him recently against Peterborough, he was as poor as Vale was today, subbed off quite early.

It makes me laugh how players become superstars when we can’t select them. Butterworth, Vale and Gallagher are all bad players. It reminds me of when we had the choice between Ward or Blake 😩

Both will end up at a similar level to Joe Nuttall in a couple of years.

The rest are well below the required standard, so we had better hope this Undav fella, if we are signing him, can hit the ground running and stay injury free.
Gav
Brereton has bagged around 9 league goals this season and I think Gallagher has 5. If Gallagher had 9 would he be a good striker? He offers more to the team than Diaz, no doubt about that. He needs to score more goals, I’m not sure he has in his armoury, but he’s far from the main problem with this threadbare squad. He’s been here since 2019 and in most of the games I’ve watched, he’s offered little, and at worst been a total bystander. This year he’s contributed more defensively but he’s still an awful player. He deserved to be dropped after Rotherham. He won’t score more goals. He doesn’t offer more than Brereton. He’s never had a defence on the back foot, he’s never troubled a CB with his ability. No one is saying he’s the main problem with the team, but if he’s our best option for goals, then that’s a massive problem in a game that’s about scoring goals.

Brereton-Diaz hasn't scored since the start of November... so basically the same contribution as Gallagher. Neither is sustainable if you want to be a playoff team.

He’s not our best option for goals that’s Diaz and before him Armstrong, but his all round contribution makes him a great player to have in the ranks, a managers dream. Just imagine where we’d be right now without Diaz and Gallagher, the wages are irrelevant for me, both don’t earn as much Rhodes was getting and we all know the hardest position on pitch to fill is goal scorer. roversfan99
He is clearly useful well above the likes of Vale, Hirst and Butterworth and will chip in with close to double figures but would his all round contribution be considered a managers dream? He works hard but he has a poor touch, jumps lower than he stands, cant hold the ball up and he misses loads of games due to injury.

You wouldn't think Butterworth and Vale had come through the Academy (i.e. had some passion for the club) and were playing for their professional futures. The bare minimum you expect from a footballer is 100% effort. If they're not talented enough then you still respect that they've tried. Neither Butterworth or Vale look like they want to be there - and both will find themselves out of football and / or in the lower leagues very shortly.

Blimey Gav, a managers dream? Great player? I don't know how you can be so vehement about Venkys then set your sights so low. He's not good enough. Gallagher has scored 3 league goals this season by the way. Travis is one goal away from equalling him. If you compare it to other teams around us the difference is an extra goal from all the other contributing players, and their second top scorer having twice as many goals as Gallagher, or having almost as many as their top scorer, or joint top goalscorer. Sheffield United are massively ahead but Burnley have three players banging them in regularly and three players chipping in with 14 goals between them. It's easy to see why they are the best team. Goals win games. So I'd say Gallagher is a massive problem. Big wages for little return. Swap Gallagher for a good goalscorer and the future may look rosier. On a positive note, Dack all things considered, is doing really well. Edited January 21, 2023 by booth

His defensive qualities are arguably his best attribute, hardly misses a header when defending from a corner if you watch. But the bottom line is he’s paid to score goals and he’s doesn’t get enough, but he’s the 2nd best attacking player on the books with no signs of money to replace him. That's not true for this season. He's on equal goals with Dolan, Szmodics and after today's goal, Dack. I fully expect Dack to score more goals than him this season if he can stay fit.

Fraserkirky
Forgot to mention, after a bit of a torrid first 15 mins, thought JRC had a good game especially second half. Working out okay there filling in for Britain
