Attendance averages are at all time highs in English football and the Championship is the 5th best supported division in Europe, behind the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A.

You'll probably pull something better Upside Down, but in the interest of procrastination below is a view vs Lancashire clubs and vs division averages. (Div 1 to Div 4 like old money, left Div 4 off though as it was so low and Rovers have never fallen that far)

Division averages tells the story of the post Euro 96 Boom when English Football felt like it was no longer a hostile place. All divisions trending upwards from then on.

Rovers dropped below the English average (average across all 4 tiers) in 2016 for the first time since 1992 (we were pretty much average for England between 1974 and 1992 for what it's worth). So like for like we're probably seeing worse results now compared to national average than in the 80s when we were averaging sub 10k.

EDIT: the Lancashire trend follows pretty exact for all clubs, bar spikes when success is produced on the pitch (PNE yet to experience this), the only outlier is the final Bolton spike (and PNE to a certain extent) which is from Div 3, so hardly success related. (cough pricing cough). 

If we had an equivalent % jump that Bolton and PNE have had from pre-covid (2020) to now (2023) we would have averaged around 19.5k last season (compared to 14.8k - essentially worth an 5k extra home sales)

There are obviously a lot of economic factors at play too but won't go into that and it's probably for the non-football side of the board.

Interesting site for attendance buffs, the graph for the Lancashire clubs perfectly illustrates the effect of success has on attendances. The attendances in the fifties/early sixties were massive for all the clubs and all had a lean period in the eighties. The cost of season tickets is also highlighted with a big spike around 2010 when we put the prices down to £199. 

Average attendance for all the Lancashire founder member since the league started in 1888 shows how close the crowds have been with Preston being the worst as they have spent considerably less time in the top flight.

All aboard! I noticed on the seat map the Blackburn end looks a lot more sparse than normal... what's the % in there Gooz?

Could it be quite a few BBE regulars are feeling the cost of living pinch a bit more now and have had to give up STs ?

Whereas the JW might be more attractive to newbies and those returning to the fold after not spending on STs for a while. Many sitting in there back end of last season on cheap ticket deals and one off visits might be tempted.

Doing well at Christmas has seen us sell a fair few half STs in the Blackburn End these last couple of years, I imagine quite a few of those don’t bother then buying a full ST.

So about 75% full already just with ST holders, so with 6 weeks to go and then match day tickets on top it is still a very busy stand tier by modern day standards.
