Tonight was a reminder of why you love football and keep on going match after match, year after year, even when it's rainy and cold and the team's rubbish and you hate the manager and the owners - it's all worth it when you get nights like tonight Tonight was a throwback to the mid-1960s, the 1970s under Kendall, the glory days of the1990s, the Cardiff league cup win in 2002, the Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Old Trafford in 2007 - the atmosphere the fervour and noise of the fans driven by the excellent performance of the team was from another era A brilliant night for the club and the fans and I won't let Jack Vale spoil it except to (if I could) ask him if he really wants to be a professional footballer Rovers have set the standard now. Same again against Sheffield United please. Im assuming you were at the game Jim. If so, you are on a roll and we expect you to attend all further away fixtures!!!!! 3 Quote

JDT is doing a great job overall, but I've no idea what he sees in Vale. And only a bit of an idea what he sees in Morton. He probably sees that there's not another (fit) striker on the books so he has to play someone. He'll be sold in the summer I reckon - and I actually don't think it's that he doesn't run / sprint, it's just that he's got no acceleration so he's second to everything. 1 Quote
J*B Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Very very proud of JDTs super blue army tonight. He’s one hell of a manager to get these kids playing like that. 6 Quote

Has to be more worth a try than Vale at this point. I didn't expect it would be Leonard rather than Vale coming on unless we were maybe 3 to the good, I said as much maybe 10 mins before the sub. He went for experience rather than risking youth, and in the circumstances there is some logic to that. But what Vale has experience of at this point is ambling around aimlessly. 2 Quote

I'm sure he's sick of Vale too at this point - we were really stuffed when Gallagher indicated he needed to be subbed. 2 Quote

Apologies if the following upsets anyone; but I had to go to the loo - the excitement was getting too much for me! 😉 - around the time JV must have come on as a substitute. About 10 minutes later, I heard the commentator mention him and wondered, "When did he come on?!" 1 Quote
Exiled_Rover Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I was playing football, (set off at half time) so I've only just caught up on the match on iPlayer. As I thought, we ran out of steam on 60 minutes - you can only play that high press for so long. I wish we had players to bring on for Gallagher and Szmodics as they both ran their blood to water - alas maybe that's a job for the summer. Magnificent result though - let's hope the injuries to JRC and Gallagher aren't significant and we can carry this form into Saturday. 2 Quote
JHRover Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Wow. What can I say. The best performance I have seen from a Rovers team in many years. i'm struggling to think of the last time we played to such a standard against such opposition and so deservingly won. I can't remember another occasion. Should have been out of sight and done and dusted by 60 minutes and thought we would pay dearly for not finishing them off but we then showed the other qualities to our game in the last 20 so much so they threatened little despite having most of the ball. Some effort to churn out that sort of performance and result away at a PL side. Another when it is the 2nd time we've done it this season, comparing to year after year of dismal cup efforts under the last manager. The magnitude of the effort to me summed up seeing Dack and Brereton sat in the commentary box, bringing Jack Vale on for the last 20 minutes and having other youngsters on the bench. We are down to the bare bones and are desperately short on options, depth and experience but boy are they stepping up to deal with it. Still think the squad depth issue will be our downfall thanks to incompetence upstairs. Unlike our media frenzied neighbours who have got to the cusp of the QFs having to deal with Crawley Town and Fleetwood at home we have got there the hard way playing 2 solid Championship sides away and a solid PL side away 6 Quote

Popular Post arbitro Posted March 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 1, 2023 Just home after suffering the vagaries of our motorway network but even that can't take away the warm glow inside or the mile wide smile I have. I thought we bordered on excellent tonight, the pace, the intensity, the work rate and sheer endeavour absolutely delighted me. The players, the fans and staff did us and our club proud tonight and I think pride is the overwhelming emotion I felt. Of course I was nervous after they scored and we had missed some great chances but the way the players out their bodies on the line to get us a result was outstanding. I truly believe that a big factor in our excellence tonight was the quality of the pitch and the wet surface. Our players seemed to thrive on it as the ball ran fast and true. There weren't too many under or over but passes and for me the pitch played a part. Well done to everyone connected to the club and thanks to the management and players for a performance that will live long in my memory. 16 Quote

It wasn't a smash and grab, it wasn't a sucker punch. We played Leicester off the park for huge portions of the game tonight, and that's something you don't often see when there's a divisional gap between clubs. Looked at another way, as both the BBC commentator and the Leicester fans' report on the game did last night😁 , 15th in the Premier League is only 10 places above 4th in the Championship! Edited March 1, 2023 by R0verb0y Citing the Leicester fans' report on the game! Quote
yellowsubmarine Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Love to see us playing against either of the Manchester teams or Spurs next. More experience for our boys. Burnley will be so-so boring. Quote
lraC Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 With a trip to wembley at stake, I am hoping for a home tie and would be wanting to avoid, both of the Manchester clubs. I would really fancy us against anyone else, especially if we play like we did last night. 1 Quote
matt83 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 For the first time in a long long long time I’ve actually left a ground feeling proud supporting rovers and enjoyed the 90 mins. Nearly even forgot the shambles that is the club. On various levels didn’t think going through properly especially as only had 3 hours sleep before setting off to work but all totally worth it. I nearly turned back at Knutsford thinking they’d put in a powderpuff performance, was going to be knackered today, etc. So glad I didn’t and also glad didn’t go to penalties. 5 Quote
Mattyblue Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Bloody hell an actual Rovers dedicated piece on the BBC…. Is it 2009? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64806400 6 Quote

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Just fantastic for all at Rovers!....wonder what's behind the sudden upturn in results? This could turn into one crazy and enjoyable Season. 1 Quote
norwichblue Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 It's only 7:30am and I've watched the highlights about 5 times this morning. Still absolutely buzzing. What a performance, what a night! Can't get over the way Gally sprinted to win the tackle and drove forward for the second. A genuine hunger to win games. I can remember thinking "it'll be years before we have another fun season" around this time last year after binning that healthy position we had in the league. It's fair to say expectations have been well and truly exceeded. Two incredible cup runs. Two premier league teams beaten on their own turf. A genuine belief we can push for a play-off place. It's not all been roses (D*ngles, PNE and Rotherham defeats still hurt, but I can forgive after last night). Really genuinely enjoying being a rovers fan again, for the first time in a long time. JDT'S BLUE AND WHITE ARMY! 🔵⚪️ 7 Quote

This could turn into one crazy and enjoyable Season. My view is that since Rotherham there has been a realisation that the way we were playing didn't really suit the players or the Championship. The slow tempo isn't as apparent now and the intensity appears to have increased. I have to be honest though as I doubted that some of our players weren't capable of playing any quicker but so far I'm delighted to be wrong. 5 Quote
Gaz85 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Arguably the best away day I’ve been to that. Unbelievable performance, an atmosphere like I’ve never seen before and an incredible result to match. So many great performances last night. It was worth getting home at 01:30! 1 Quote
