Ossydave Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Massive test on so many levels. Saturday was poor, but it needs erasing from the memory now, I imagine Norwich were pretty deflated too after a dodgy goal against them stood. JDT needs to lift the players big time, the crowd can also play a part. Its worrying the lack of experience amongst the players at times like this, time to stand up and be counted. I don't think it'll be particularly enjoyable I'm afraid! I'm going for a nervy 1-0 win, BBD with the goal after 8 minutes or so. 1 Quote

Preston, dingles, Luton, millwall final 4 games alone we need battlers not a couldn't care less soft ass from Liverpool reserves kaminski JRC Carter hyam pickering travis garret hedges dack BBD Gallagher I would drop Morton too (not for Garrett) but that in bold shouldn't play any part in team selections. The focus now is solely on these 8 games, not future development. Equally, we wouldn't drop Brereton or Thomas for the same reason. Quote

But if the alternative is Edun who is awful at left back and Pickering who is a small full back at centre back then it is hardly a viable alternative. As I said, it has often been down to necessity when those players have played. I doubt Phillips and Vale would have played much had Ayala/Wharton and to a lesser extent Hyam had picked up injuries, or if Broughton had actually signed a competent striker. It's not a criticism, but equally I don't think it has been down to bravery. I've never seen Edun play live, he doesn't get many games either, is he not any good or not rated? Quote

He is absolutely hopeless though if the opposition sits back and space is a premium (like Brum on Saturday). I don't think JDT really rates him either reading between the lines, but literally we have no one else at the moment. However there is a plus is that Norwich won't want to sit deep so I can see Gallagher having a better game as it will suit him more. Yes, JDT seemed more upset with no striker than the O'Brien debacle. He is stuck with Gallagher until the next window. It's a terribly low bar but he's better than Vale. Quote

He is crap unfortunately, both in midfield where positionally he is all over the place and in midfield where he is a liability. Just not up to it, and Tomasson seems to have figured that out hence why he struggles to get near the squad. 1 Quote

Hes not been great for us. But i do wonder if hed improve a bit with game time like JRC has. Would happily swap him for a proper left back though as we have loads of young mids and only one specialist left back. 1 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I don't see why people want to play with 2 number 10's and no proper striker on the bench. BBD wants to play from left so pointless playing him up front. Its got to Gallagher or Dolan 15 hours ago, roverandout said: There were some quality deliveries yesterday and he basically ducked out of any challenge to get the ball. I'm pretty sure in the summer if we buy a decent forward you will change your tune like you do all the time and say Gallagher was the problem I have said before we need another signing but Gallagher is a decent championship striker who will get around 10 goals a season 1 hour ago, roversfan99 said: I would drop Morton too (not for Garrett) but that in bold shouldn't play any part in team selections. So let's not rubbish the idea because "they don't want to." 3 Quote

He's not very good, although if he had to stand in for 1 game it wouldn't worry me that much compared to Mola. The first half performance by Mola against Notts Forest made Edun look like Maldini. 2 Quote

Edun is below average, for a professional player at championship level. I could not even say what Eduns best position is. I have seen him play with the U21s and personally I am not impressed. 1 Quote

I think the answer to your first question is that people are discussing other options. What people refer to as a plan B. I wouldn't rate a 10 goal per season striker, as decent at any level. Because he doesn't rate Garrett. Quote

Thomas wide right and Szmodics in the 10 role I was just highlighting how your point about Brereton "not wanting" to play anywhere but from the left was flawed, as shown by the fact that him and Dolan have pretty much said identical things. The reason presumably why people want to change it is because they don't want Gallagher to play and Brereton is our only consistent source of goals and physical threat. Quote
tomphil Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I'd certainly have Edun in before Mola if push came to shove. Quote
jim mk2 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I found myself sitting next to Edun's family at the Coventry away match and had a chat with his dad (nice chap). He said Edun's favourite position is left midfield and that's where he's played most of his career including for the England age groups. Sadly, it doesn't look like he has a future at Rovers. Quote

A classic Mowbray squaddie signing to be used everywhere except his favoured position because obviously we then get in a LWB to play there instead ! Quote

I’d go with Dack and Szmodics as a fairly fluid central front two against Norwich, primarily because Gallagher has an absolute shocker on Saturday and hopefully dropping to the bench might get a reaction from him. He’d also be a lot handier to come off the bench than most of our other options if we are in need of a goal. With our lack of options it’s difficult to replace Gallagher even when it’s necessary. Dack is our most instinctive goalscorer, Vale is poor and injured anyway, big ask for Leonard to start games but I’d have him on the bench. I wouldn’t mind seeing Dolan centrally either… he’s caused the Norwich centre backs problems before. 2 Quote
