Mattyblue Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 (edited) You will never be ‘self sustaining’ in the Championship however many academy grads you sell. Edited April 23, 2023 by Mattyblue 2 Quote

If he had one full, exceptional season his value should be significantly higher than what it will be this summer. With FFP, what’s to stop us buying 4 quality players this summer knowing we would cash Wharton in to recoup the money next season? So what if we get an embargo in Jan, we don’t bring anyone of note in then anyway. You’d have to be pretty certain of the player developing as we all foresee it mind. Quote

But Jones certainly claimed to be, Wharton claims to be - how can you spot the difference at this stage? 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 A lot of pros are initially gobbled up by Academies at 7 years old, so they never really get to be the fan in the stand and it’s a job to them. 6 Quote
den Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 I just wonder why Lineker decided to leave Leicester. A true Leicester fan if ever I saw one. Quote
1874 Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Phil Jones career was ruined by Ferguson who tried to make him a defensive midfielder. If he had developed as a centre half he'd have been a much better player.. 5 Quote

You make some good points there and its fair argument and I believe next season will be year 2 of 3 year cycle regarding FFP rules. Similar to what Forest plan was if they didn't get promote to sell Johnson and Worrall. 1 Quote

roverandout Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 If we did lose him. I'd like to see him somewhere like dortmund. They've got a great record for young English and foreign talent. I think he could easily emulate Bellingham 1 Quote
Leonard Venkhater Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Well, we should not be so desperate for the money this summer, as we are likely to get a wedge from the Raya sale? Quote

Surely be more in the club’s interest to keep him for at least another season. Bigger fee and who knows he could’ve helped us become a PL club. But as den says, if he wants to go, he’ll go, be it this summer or down the line. Oh yeah for sure, it benefits both Rovers and Wharton to stay on for next year, get a full season in here before cashing in. I'm just saying building a team around him (as others have said) isn't the club's plan, the club's plan is to sell him in the medium/longer term. Just gotta hope we don't panic and sell in the summer. We have in the past taken low fees to get a quick buck (N'Zonzi, Carney) and it's backfired. 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Well that’s certainly the ‘plan’, the ‘model’, we’ve been hearing about for a good while now, doing the actual ‘selling’ part of it seems to elude them though… 2 Quote

The assumption being that when we cash in, permission will be granted to spend the money on acquiring replacements. We have no assurance of that with these owners. 1 Quote

philipl Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) I am certain the plan is not to sell either Adam or Ash this summer. That isn't to say a silly money offer would be refused but it would be beyond daft to plan to sell either this year. Broughton talks about creating value ie maximising. Not a car boot sale of future worldies. Dortmund paid £25m for Bellingham as a 17 year old in 2020. That is the yard stick for any offers this sumer. Edited April 24, 2023 by philipl 3 Quote

Polky Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 I would like Adam to play another season at least before signing elsewhere. If he plays regularly and has a successful season, I think £20m-£25m is realistic. Especially with the amount of money Newcastles owners have in their pockets. 1 Quote

Yeah & they can loan him straight back as part of the deal. 3 Quote
