I’d be immensely disappointed if we didn’t get 1 full season out of him before we cashed in.

I think every Rovers fan would be but money talks and if PL club was to offer big money we could used to bring 4 quality players then maybe we should do it

Not based on its actions it isnt.

That is the long term aim of the club. I am not going to another BBD/Rothwell sale debate with you again

True, but it also depends on how good the club think he is. If he had one full, exceptional season his value should be significantly higher than what it will be this summer.

With FFP, what’s to stop us buying 4 quality players this summer knowing we would cash Wharton in to recoup the money next season? So what if we get an embargo in Jan, we don’t bring anyone of note in then anyway. You’d have to be pretty certain of the player developing as we all foresee it mind.

I am not sure Jones was a true Rovers ..

I can see our wonderful owners selling Adam during the summer.

I'm not sure any player who says they're a Rovers fan is a true Rover. Seems to mean something different to most players. But Jones certainly claimed to be, Wharton claims to be - how can you spot the difference at this stage?

Phil Jones career was ruined by Ferguson who tried to make him a defensive midfielder. If he had developed as a centre half he'd have been a much better player..

You make some good points there and its fair argument and I believe next season will be year 2 of 3 year cycle regarding FFP rules. Similar to what Forest plan was if they didn't get promote to sell Johnson and Worrall.

Can ask for you to add a bit of meat to the bones Chaddy.

What kind of money would it take for you to think we should contemplate selling Wharton?

If we did lose him. I'd like to see him somewhere like dortmund.  They've got a great record for young English and foreign talent.  I think he could easily emulate Bellingham

You’d get bugger all for him in the summer in the grand scheme of things. Surely be more in the club’s interest to keep him for at least another season. Bigger fee and who knows he could’ve helped us become a PL club.

But as den says, if he wants to go, he’ll go, be it this summer or down the line.

Oh yeah for sure, it benefits both Rovers and Wharton to stay on for next year, get a full season in here before cashing in.

I'm just saying building a team around him (as others have said) isn't the club's plan, the club's plan is to sell him in the medium/longer term.

Just gotta hope we don't panic and sell in the summer. We have in the past taken low fees to get a quick buck (N'Zonzi, Carney) and it's backfired.

Well that’s certainly the ‘plan’, the ‘model’, we’ve been hearing about for a good while now, doing the actual ‘selling’ part of it seems to elude them though…

Yup, they've been pretty good at screwing up player sales over the last few years.

Did well to get £15m (before sell-on) for Armstrong as I'm sure Soton will see him as something of a disaster.

The assumption being that when we cash in, permission will be granted to spend the money on acquiring replacements.

We have no assurance of that with these owners.

It was a perfectly fair market rate at the time.

I am certain the plan is not to sell either Adam or Ash this summer.

That isn't to say a silly money offer would be refused but it would be beyond daft to plan to sell either this year. Broughton talks about creating value ie maximising. Not a car boot sale of future worldies.

Dortmund paid £25m for Bellingham as a 17 year old in 2020.

That is the yard stick for any offers this sumer.

It hasn’t been what the club wants for years. If the player wants to leave they get their way sooner or later.

I would like Adam to play another season at least before signing elsewhere.

If he plays regularly and has a successful season, I think £20m-£25m is realistic. Especially with the amount of money Newcastles owners have in their pockets.

Yeah & they can loan him straight back as part of the deal.
