Once again confirms that all of the 'fallen out with JDT' stuff was bullshit.

Makes you wonder who decided to make that up and what their motives were in doing so.

We'd have all liked to have seen him more this season, but even Adam's admitting himself that JDT's judgement and handling of him was spot-on this season.

It’s doubtful but I guess he could have fallen out with JDT and then realised JDT was right.

I think that is the likeliest scenario.

JDT for months is saying AW needs to do more in training to get back in team.

Months later AW is picked

AW: I needed to do more in training.

you watch some players and immediately see they are a bit special,if we can get adam a bit further up the pitch next season we`ll have every big club in europe knocking on our door, got to build the team round him imo

Said earlier he would be the ideal replacement for Bellingham at dortmund.  Their record with English players is pretty good

Why would we want him further up the pitch in our system?

His ability to take the ball from the CBs and turn on it is priceless.

Exactly. His composure and ability to take the ball of the cbs and turn and then also have the vision to pick out a pass to get us on the front foot is what makes him special.  No one else can do what he does in our squad especially that won’t give me a heart attack when they recieve it. We need to find and bring in the quality further up the pitch for Wharton to find with the pass otherwise the ball wouldn’t reach Wharton further up and we would end up giving needless goals away making Wharton’s contribution in games far less.  We need him on the ball as much as possible and in a possession based team that starts at the back.

Even for the U21's Wharton has always looked more impressive in a deeper midfield role.

Even at 11 days shy of his 19th birthday, I would be building the Rovers team for next season around the strengths and covering the youthful weaknesses of Adam Wharton.

He is good enough to steer us to automatic promotion in 23/24.

And yes I would play him a little bit deeper because when the Championship learn they have to man mark him, oppositions will be pulled out of shape to do so.

For the slightly older reader, Adam Wharton could be our Colin Bell.

He’s not as mobile as Bell. Not many players were/are. He covered every blade of grass. We tried to sign him in the relegation season of 1965-66 but he chose Div 2 Man City instead. Being fair to him they were on the way up and we were on the way down.

For me he’s more like Gordon Cowans before all the injuries.

for the killer/final ball,he`d open up defences ,provided we a centre forward who could read him that is,no good putting gallagher there he just would`nt click where the pass was going

I used to think that about Tugay but we had him in a role were he rarely got into the last third of the pitch.

fair point but tugay was never in the best of shape fitness wise and he was 31 when he landed here, souness and hughes understood he did`nt need to do any hard work just sit in space and direct the passes, wharton on the front end of midfield would be dynamite, defences will  quake with fear when his left foot disects their line🙂

Can see arguments both to have him sitting where he is brilliant at calmly taking the ball and looking after it (Buckley for example struggles with this in holding midfield) but freeing him up could allow him more freedom, he played behind 2 strikers (with a back 3) against Boro and Birmingham earlier this season and was very good. Ideally we can clone him before pre season and have 3 of him.

Will be horrible if we do sell him this summer.
