matt83
We always seem to have our pants pulled down. Wharton for £18m a shade over half of the going rate and could well go for £60m this summer. Raya £3m ultimately went for £30m. Kaminski £2m was peanuts. Brereton walked out of the door when probably worth £15m. Sammi should be going for no less than £15m but will likely go for less than £10m.

We'll no doubt receive the £22 million, plus because Rovers negotiated a better sell on percentage than Birmingham, it's almost certain we'll receive more for Wharton than Brum received for Bellingham. Birmingham supposedly did well out of their deal, and it's the rules apparently that Bellingham is the benchmark, no other comparison will do. As for Raya, it's estimated that we'll receive a total over £8 million. There isn't one person on here who wouldn't have snatched anyone's hand off for £8 million at the time. The others, I'd agree, although I don't think anyone will offer enough for Szmodics to tempt Rovers to sell. philipl
Southgate is doubly screwing Rovers over. We are not getting the transfer bonus for Adam playing in a competitive England game. And in a squad screaming out for a forward threader of passes through the middle, Southgate is sending the message Adam is not good enough and is wrecking his onward transfer value from Palace...

Southgate has obviously noticed his talent and has taken him to Germany against all expectations. I'm dying to see him play, but he's way in front of where anyone thought he would be, because of Southgate.

rob_of_the_rovers
The only way Wharton will make an appearance at the Euros is if we make the 3rd place match. 84th minute sub.
Lancaster Rover
Adam is far too progressive/risky for Southgate, he'd start for Spain, not a chance he gets a kick for England. Mainoo although slightly more progressive is another conservative midfielder who because of the complete lack of progressive midfielders is seen as someone who plays forward, he's not.

premier fan
I’ve not been overly impressed with Rice and believe Wharton can do a better job. Southgate is too frightened to upset anyone by dropping them or substituting them. Look at how he dwelled on the Ivan Toney incident, he was devastated that he’d upset him.
Norbert Rassragr
Rice chugs along for England but doesn't shine in the team. Mainoo tried to run at players and get things going at least. I'd drop Saka, Kane, Walker, Foden and possibly Rice. Palmer, Toney, TAA, Eze and Wharton in. That's if we have to play the same formation. DuffsLeftPeg
Archie Gray gone for £25-30m today. Dewsbury-Hall £30m Neither fit to lace Wharton’s boots yet both gone for £5-10m more. Cheers Rao Family & Steve Maggott! Another fine piece of short sighted business 👏

Another fine piece of short sighted business 👏 You have to remember that Wharton was in a struggling and dysfunctional side closer to the bottom of the league. He had not showcased his true abilities. Hence, why, as more-or-less everyone agrees, keeping him until the end of the season, at least, would have made more sense to attract more bidders. But, fair play to him, he hit the jackpot with an England call-up from it and I can't begrudge him that, especially, as he didn't militate for a move. If the club was run properly, we could console ourselves in the money being reinvested. We could also console ourselves if exciting talents were coming through, but aside from Finneran, whose future remains unclear and Tyjon, we may be hitting a trough. (I do have some hope that Garrett and, maybe, just maybe, Isaac Whitehall might both turn out to be decent). Very fair point, and it's possible we could have got more, but Birmingham were wise/capable enough to reject advances in January and wait to the end of the season, I believe, before selling him. Despite the lowly league finish and being a teenager in his breakout season, he won Championship Apprentice of the Year and EFL Young Player of the Season. He was then sold for a reported 25 million with possible add-ons, as a seventeen year-old. Edited July 3, 2024 by riverholmes

Problem is Finneran (if we keep him) and Tyjon are likely to be no more than squad players at best for a couple of seasons. We should have been looking forward to Wharton and Phillips being our breakthrough regulars last and this season to keep the production line going. Unfortunately, both were a bit too good/promising and we were under financial distress thanks to our cunt owners, so we couldn't keep them and the money received does nothing more than keep the lights on for this horrow show. Personally I have a bit of hope for Garrett too. Admittedly I've had to miss a lot of games this last season due to work commitments, but when I see him, I don't see the shit player that many on here seem to see. I think he's still rough but could become a good player for us potentially. Equally he might end up the next Davenport. What's promising in his case is he has scored a few good goals, and is a tenacious player. I'm certain Whitehall would be in our first team by now...if he weren't made of glass. He looked to have all the attributes a few years ago but I've lost confidence he'll ever stay fit long enough to establish himself here. On the flipside of that, I once said the same thing about JRC, and although he still does break down quite a lot, he's become an important player in our squad. Looking at the U21 squad, the only players I have any belief might be of use to us this season that haven't really been used... Gilsenan, who I think should have been a feature at the close end of the season. I always think it's criminal when a player is in red hot form for the U21s to not be given a proper chance in the first team. Confidence and form are key in football. Play them at the right time and they do well, it can be the making of a player. Fail to put them in, especially whilst the first team are performing poorly, and it can knock their confidence and form back. Gent has had a very good loan and may come back as a useful backup LB. Erm, yeh that's probably it really. Maybe the aforementioned Whitehall if he can stay fit and impress until around January. Of course, it's sounding like our transfer budget will be pathetic, and some U21 players may need to step up whether they're ready or not.

I would add Duru to your list though, both in terms of his ability and likely lack of funds, and possibly James Edmondson & Atcheson. In the early season cup games (albeit against lower league teams) and in the away game against West Brom, Garrrett did look like he had the potential to be a future Szmodics replacement (as in hard working goal scoring midfielder... not saying he will get close to 30 goals this year) Edited July 3, 2024 by KentExile
Lancaster Rover
I think the overly inflated fee for Grayy, etc (you can chuck Elliot Anderson and others in with this) is to make paper transfers at the end of the PSR window to allow clubs to sign other players. Thats not to say that we didn't undersell Adam but I think we're in a position where untested academy players or middle of the road academy products will go for hugely inflated fees this summer. The whole thing is broken, clubs selling off their homegrown products for nonsense fees to comply with a made up rule.
