Even more perplexing is that tonight's game is a league cup match.  Hardly a high priority surely?

I can just about understand the balancing act of playing him in league games to protect their Premier League status, even half fit, he is their best midfielder, but playing him in a meaningless cup game was madness

The league cup is not meaningless. Unless you're a super rich 'elite club' of course.

Both these teams should be going full noise to win this game and get through to the next round.

I see villa gave away a goal by 'playing the right way'.

Maybe I should have wrote "meaningless in comparison to the £100M+ on offer for remaining in the Premier League for another season"

They started an injured player for the 2nd time in a few days, and look to have worsened his injury.  It was a terrible decision

Fair do's.

The truly meaningless games are the shit early round European games and the international friendlies or whatever they're calling them now.

Make the Euro competitions two leg straight knock outs from the beginning and you'll get rid of the fixture congestion.

so no point in competing for a trophy and giving the fans a trip to wembley then?????

My argument is that it was a ridiculous decision to play an already injured player in that league cup game.

That doesn't mean that they had to throw in the towel for tonight's game.  I didn't say that they had to play their U14 reserves, and start the game by smashing the ball into their own goal

So you know the extent of Whartons injury pre game. Or are you making assumptions from hearsay ?

Quotes from the Palace manager state he has been playing on painkillers all season

I have known loads of players taking painkillers, both oral and injected. Some are so bad they cannot train, but still play on match days.

lots of pressure to play every week and players scared of losing their place as well,it`s not good though to keep pumping a young lad full of painkillers and cortisone ,i hope adam does`nt break down completely

I am not saying it is good. I am saying it happens, and on a regular occasion. Usually on the insistance of the player.

Maybe scrap the league Cup altogether.  Another attack on international football

Clearly neither you nor I have any real idea how serious his injury is, but clearly it can't be that bad at the moment if he can play 88 minutes of a PL game. I suspect that no one is yet sure whether what he has are natural growing pains or something more serious.

This post did not age well.
