Bristol City got £25million for Scott, who’s not in the same stratosphere as Adam Wharton… but they weren’t distressed sellers.

We held all the cards as well and were we a normal club could have held out for a much bigger fee from Palace or the inevitable next suitor. It's not like Adam was gonna kick off if he didn't get a move. By all accounts he was in tears at the prospect of having to leave. Fact is we had to sell for a knock down fee to keep the lights on.

He was available for a relative pittance for a player of his ability and only Crystal Palace bit at that point 

I know the arguments are that clubs were hamstrung by ffp but they all weren't the transfer fee would have been spread over the length of his contract many clubs could have done that deal without any issue 

What would have changed to make other clubs pay a much larger fee whilst still playing in the championship for us without us getting promotion or starting to beat the better teams in the division with Wharton key to that 

I agree he is worth more much more and hopefully we will at least see a sell on (which will dissappear anyway) I just don't see why clubs would pay much more 6 months /year down the line when he is still playing at the same level.I know he is a Rovers fan and he would stayed the rest of the season but for his career he would have had to go in the summer

Wharton needs to start scoring goals to add to his other attributes. Lovely player to watch when he’s playing well

Brentford sell Watkins to Villa for £30 million and within weeks have invested most of that back into their squad and the show rolls on - either get promoted and recoup the money or sell the replacements and reinvest - and on it goes.

Here the name of the game is to save cash for the Indians with no end in sight. No promotion, no reinvestment, no sale of the club. Just purgatory.

He doesn't. Busquets never scored goals and he was regarded as one of the best deep lying midfielders of all time

Adam Wharton is already better than Declan Rice, for me and his ceiling is far higher.

I genuinely believe Wharton should only be going to a team with a realistic shot at winning the Champions League.

Spurs, Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal and Man United believe they have a shot at signing him in the summer but he’s better off staying where he is, getting England caps in qualification, going to the World Cup in 2026, sending Kobbie Mainoo some Adam Wharton pyjamas to wear while he watches the games from Manchester and basically having his pick of the major European clubs afterwards. He’d be magic at one of the big two in Spain, he’d do extremely well at Milan and he’d probably suit Citeh extremely well, too (the vertical passes through the lines are an exact match for the runs Haaland makes).

He’ll work his way into the starting lineup wherever he ends up quite quickly, his instinctive talent and composure is basically unmatched at his age profile, in England. I’ve never seen him look remotely rushed or pressure by his environment.

In terms of playing with England players at his club: why not Bellingham?

I totally agree. He wouldn't look out of place at real madrid.  Perfect replacement for modric.

I hope he stays at Palace and walks away for nothing rather than help venkys keep the lights on a little longer.

On the football side of it Wharton played a big hand in Palace's first 3 goals.

I love watching him but its with enormous regret.

Then we had people on here telling us the fee we got for him was just about right. Even the dogs in the street knew he was a once in a generation level player. Players who can turn defence into attack with one instant pass like he can are worth their weight in gold today. Another reason why I’ll never forgive the chicken chokers.

Or built around him for a promotion campaign.

He was already bossing the Championship as a 19 year old. There was absolutely no rush to sell him besides the obvious.
