Adam Wharton

Rice is probably the most complete midfielder in the Premier League right now. I don't disagree with the ceiling bit, but they are not on the same level at the moment.

Find me footage of Adam Wharton running himself out of play in the 92nd minute under no pressure and I’ll be inclined to agree. Rice is really overrated.

Rice is definitely not overrated.  He's probably the best in the world for what he does. He's added goals and assists to his game since going to arsenal.

The lad is going to the very top.

And that £18m fee looks more and more like our pants were pulled down. Palace really took advantage of our bad financial situation (fair play to them) and we're going to continue to regret pushing him out of the door more and more a his career rockets.

Do you mean under pressure? He has two players closing him down, and even the tweet you've posted describes it as under pressure. It also doesn't go out of play, but his final pass is to the opposition as he's ran out of options.

He made a mistake for sure, there was an opportunity briefly to cut the ball slightly inside then play it to the man moving forward in the middle. But nobody is perfect and for sure you could find a clip of Wharton doing something as bad. I do think Rice is a little overrated from what I've seen, but I'm going to be honest and say I've seen far too little to make a judgement.

He doesn’t play in the same position as Rice, so comparisons aren’t really relevant.

Appreciate he’s one of our own and we’re keen to hype him. But, whilst there’s every reason to believe that eventually, he’ll be a better player than Rice, he isn’t there yet.

Unless of course, we’re talking about a different Declan Rice to the one with 62 caps for England, who’s played in the Champions League a fair bit 😅.

I think he's a really, really good player, but he's a firefighter (and an excellent one) who should sit in midfield. For some reason everyone is convinced that he's a world class box-to-box midfielder and he just doesn't have it in his locker - as the above clip highlights.

£100m for him was insane too.

Argh, can't find that video of Jason Lowe running the ball out of play under no pressure...

He is going to the top as we all knew.

Shame he came through in our Venkys era.

For his sake I'm sort of glad he ended up at a club like Palace. Whilst it highlights how far we've fallen (the fact that Palace are buying our generation talent!), at least he's getting loads of game time at a stable club where it's not toxic and there's little pressure.

And fair fucks to Palace too - they did their homework (easy homework), but picking up the likes of Wharton, Eze, Olise from the Championship whilst mugs like United spend a fortune in the dog and duck leagues of Europe.

I hope Tuchel is watching (no more Angel Gomes taking his spot)

I'm 100% with you on this, there is some absolute dross in the Premier League (most of them are at United) and I have always thought that surely there are better and cheaper options in the Championship!

THANK YOU.... I uploaded this years ago and it no longer seemed to show up... Me and my mates hated Jason Lowe and I was trying to find this for us to laugh at not long ago.

I like how the video is just called "Jason Lowe" with no description. None needed. Everything you need to know about the lad summed up in 9 seconds.

Pretty much what I was going for. I cut out the screaming at the TV and hysterical laughing at how shit he was. We were being relegated and this absolutely showed him up for what he was... The first player on the training pitch, the last off it but...

THE WORST ROVERS PLAYER I'VE EVER SEEN.

Yet he captained the England U-21’s ! That speaks volumes about the England set up back then. The first time I saw him play I was expecting to see the new Simon Barker. I was really surprised, he had nothing that stood out. Just a very, very ordinary player.

We let him go criminally cheap, a class act destined for the top of the game imo.

When you see a player that makes the game look so easy at such a young age you know he’s destined to go all the way. What the other Premier League scouts were doing is a mystery. I saw that interview with Tony Mowbray were he said the Palace chairman had phoned him up to ask about Wharton and Mowbray was glowing in his praise.

As much as I'm angry about the fee we got for Adam I'm probably more irate at the reason for selling him. The Punekars reluctance to fund the club properly because of their business irregularities landing them in trouble with the Indian authorities.

Palace took clear advantage of this and stole him.

Distressed seller sums this episode up perfectly.
