So the wider game didn’t appreciate how good he was? Probably best not to take the first offer that came in then and bide some time until it’s caught up, or how about building a side around him and try and get promoted yourself, you know, the point of professional football … oh, that’s right we had the owners’ bills to pay for them.

We’ll go round in circles on this, nobody disagrees that we’d have got £30million in January 2024… so you keep him and utilise the player yourself, especially when he’s a fan happy to stay… but of course, Venky’s had other ideas.

I can't speak for anybody else but I have never said we should have taken the offer in January. And I have never suggested anyone has said we could have sold him for £30 million in the January window.

My opinion is he would have been looking to move up a level in the Summer anyway if he was ambitious over his career yeah I get he ie a Rovers fan but surely like the rest of us will know the club is going nowhere whilst we have these owners,so I don't see that much more would have been put down we might have got £22 up front or similar but no chance of £30 mill for him after a few more months playing at the same level for a side struggling. Big clubs and the national coaches where missing something with him

Doesnt change anything that I said. Our negotiating position was weak because we was desperate to sell ASAP.

we can keep going around in circles over it and recycled the same old opinions and points.

Rovers rejected Palace's original bid of £15m. We got higher fee and sell on clause

Gosh we're tough!

Clubs would have bid more. But we sold him in January. You only have to look at the backwards way Arsenal signed Raya to understand balancing the books with PSR is a challenge.

If we'd have held onto him until the summer, we could have created a bidding war. It was widely known how many clubs were scouting him. Palace simply took advantage of the financial mess our owners created. They knew we had to sell asap, and were one of a smaller number of clubs who could commit at that moment in time

I don't think many would be arguing here had we spent a reasonable amount of the fee received on a deep lying central midfielder who could pass forward at Championship level at around the £3 - 4 million mark.

The main problem is there was no strategy to that sale, or any sale, other than to have Venky's not spending their own money on players or Blackburn Rovers...

They have got to go.

# Venky's and Suhail out!

It's all irrelevant - we won't see a penny of it. It's just helped the owners (and by the sounds of it will continue to help them) keep their strangle hold on the club without investing any money. I'm resigned to that fact now - they're determined to kill us.

The biggest travesty is that we only got to see him play for Rovers for 12 months.

I only got to see him live once which is part of why I was late to the party on his abilities

Got to thank @Herbie6590 and @J*B as the ticket was on them, he scored that day as well!

Surely not, we've been assured repeatedly on here that you can't expect that kind of money for a teenage midfielder with about 50 Championship appearances. Just isn't possible.

I await all the excuses for how this one is different somehow.

No need for excuses I can nearly 100% guarantee that nobody will be paying £37 million for Rigg.

At the time they bought Scott he was one of the best young midfielders in the division, captained his Club and was keeping Premier league youngsters out of the England under 21 starting line ups.

If Rigg goes for anywhere close to 37 million in the summer il be absolutely shocked.Very good young player with massive potential but they won't get that sort of money for him.

It's like this people where going mad on here when young Watson from Sunderland was being linked with a move to Brighton with reports it was a 20 million+ deal...it turned out Brighton had only bid 10 million as the initial fee

With no sell on though, coming from a club who had recently been in the Premier league and his family name is big within English football .

Leeds got no sell on for Gray only because they gambled on promotion & inserted a clause onto his deal allowing him to move for that amount if they were not promoted.

Rovers got the low fee that they did for Wharton because they/Waggott/Pasha/Venkys "willingly" accepted such a low amount (even with the sell on) after negotiation, at the worst time to sell a player (|January window)

Yes we shouldn't have sold him

But we wouldn't have got the Gray fee if we waited until Summer when the player himself would have most likely felt he would have needed to move on

People on here might not like it and I don't agree with it but fact is Gray was being rated higher externally than Wharton, England involvement and fee paid is testament to that. Big clubs ain't gonna ignore an £18 million fee to pay 30 million only a few months later

If he is worth that…..what was Adam worth.

Further example, as if it was needed, of Waggott’s/the clubs incompetence

But come and buy your more expensive season tickets folks!
