The comments are "anyone with 2 eyes can see how good he is".So why wasn't he being included for the national squads then?

Facts are he was available for 18 million after playing a year of Championship football any of the big clubs could have bought him then. But they didn't so they where going to come in in the summer and pay many millions more. They wouldn't have

Why was Mainoo playing in the Euros when he's half the player Wharton is?

Doesn't mean people with two eyes know what they're looking at.

All had scouted him and were interested - as well as some foreign clubs (eg Dortmund).

Palace were just the quickest to move for him.

He's clearly been destined for the top for some time and, in fairness, Palace has been a good stepping stone for him to get Premier League exposure.

Good PL exposure and then move on to an actually relevant PL club.

Iv said previously that I think he is worth more and I thought a lot more clubs would be in for him...

And if he was being judged only on his technical ability then at the price we sold for Top clubs would have been in for him ahead of Palace. They all looked at him and only Palace came in.

Just my opinion that clubs in the Premier league were unsure about parts of his game ,same as England as didn't get selected till under 19 and a year playing regular for us didn't even lead to an England under 21 call up

I don't disagree that we shouldn't have sold him and it's a disgrace we had to sell him so early to keep the lights on.The part I disagree with is we would have had bids of many more millions if we waited until the summer.

I agree he is better than Mainoo

Would you not acknowledge though that putting aside the increase in value of another half season here, which you think would be nominal, and the lack of under 21 appearances.

That the summer transfer window is a totally different animal. Clubs unwilling to spend at the end of a January window in which teams are thinking more short term and Premier League clubs seldom spend much in that window. Therefore, more clubs very well may have been willing to bid in the summer, driving the price up.

PL clubs tend to hoover up anyone promising these days - they'll just loan them back out.

In the up to maybe 8, 10 million bracket. Not usually in the 18 million bracket I believe. Though I don't follow it as closely these days. I know it does happen but far as I've noticed, if they pay that sort of money they have hopes beyond just hoover and loan out. Not saying they don't loan them either, they need to blood them, but I'd think they're usually expecting one season of loan, if they don't have proper Champs experience already, then break through after.

Wharton was poor like the rest of the team in the main last season. So no I don't think another 6 months playing for a relegation threatened side and not winning many matches would have led to much more money being put down for him.

The top clubs if they liked him would have been in at the price we sold him for in January. They had scouts watching him ,it wasn't just Palace who knew we needed money if those clubs believed he was a generational talent they would have paid the fee. They ain't going to be paying 5 or 10 million more 6 months down the Line

Belting player and was very highly regarded for a long time. It's good to see him flourish, sickener it's not with us. We've brought some very good players through in recent years : Wharton, Raya, Phillips,  Carter, S Wharton but for injures would have had a much better career.. Travis, Lenihan.. With shrewd leadership we could and probably should be EPL yo-yo at least with a core of home grown players.. Swings and roundabouts though. One day we'll be back. Good luck with the season. That Mateta is brilliant. Proper shows up United how you fish players from the epl..

Watched rice yesterday. People on this thread said he's overrated.  I think yesterday proved he's the best in the business at what he does

Rice was played in the wrong position for England.. Best utilised as a proper cm in my opinion..

He really wasnt poor. Him and Szmodics were shining lights amidst the dross around them.

Teams are much more likely to spend thay amount in a summer window than in a winter one.

Out of interest. Which England players if any do you think are overrated?

During the run from December to when he was sold Wharton was a shining light?I disagree our midfield was being overrun. He had played well but not outstanding up to that,he always had that class but it wasn't like he was dominating games regularly

We will have to agree to disagree, I have said we might have got a few million more but not the 5 or 10 million some are making out.And the outrage that he is now being linked with £70 million moves when it's him proving himself in the prem that has him being strongly linked with big clubs
