Reminded me of when JDT pulled him out of the side for a while. He's played premier league football non-stop since January + away with England over the summer. Looks like he needs some time out, to regroup and come back stronger.

Adam just didn't look to have his usual confidence on the ball. He could well be carrying an injury but the accuracy and pace of his passing was miles away from where we know it should be. To be truthful the first half just passed him by and he was rightly withdrawn.

So did we get a good price for him yet ?

Haha an interesting question! We got 16-18m for Phil Jones and he ended up not playing much (as per earlier discussion on BBD thread) so I would say it's hard to know. 18m for a player that could get a career of injuries possible yes, 18m if Wharton turns out to be pirlo... Probably not... But most importantly whatever Wharton does we will /should all be behind him as he is one of our own. Hope he does well in his career and always glad I got to watch him in a few games in a Rovers shirt. The lad bleeds class.

According to my paper today he’s been taking painkillers for a groin injury. This appears to have been going on since the beginning of the season. He shouldn’t really be playing.

Shows his quality how much the club and coaches want him starting a game against Utd despite being injured and needing pain meds

Or showing how desperate they are. Could find themselves in a relegation fight if this continues.

But they are doing. You just said yourself, he's injured and needs pain meds.

It's a really good discussion and one I value this forum for.

Is Wharton ' valued ' for what he brings (his vision, class etc despite relative lack of PL experience) hence he plays when injured using pain relief because he is that good they need him in the team

Or is it Palace are ' desperate ' for cm's because lack in squad depth so they play him regardless of injury and pump him full of pain meds.

Watching arsenal yesterday they played timber out of position as white was injured but they were so desperate after the red they subbed Saka and brought on an injured white which shows more desperation (than the club holding value in timber and therefore playing him anyway as a right back and dropping white)

I think palace could play others in cm if they are desperate but value Wharton therefore play him regardless even for 45mins

It's not just too many games which the players are complaining about - which is true - but clubs with huge squads insist on playing unfit/struggling players. It strikes me as madness that you play a struggling Wharton when you have in-form Will Hughes and, also Lerma (who came on) on the bench.

Yeh it is strange but also they didn't play him in their previous cup game at all and he played the full 90mins the previous PL game so it could just be they see him as so valuable against Utd they didn't want to lose. It worked I guess. He played half the match. They didn't concede or lose. Let's see if he gets recovery time or he starts the next match

It shows that an injured Wharton is still the best option they have.

Bargain of the millennium for palace. Paid less than half his actual value.

They should have bought him when they had the chance. It’s not like City to miss out.
