We gave it everything last night, we have played well in a few games now and haven't got our deserved rewards and credit to the players for not giving up! A good summer window and I'm sure we can go for automatics! I agree with that although it will also depend heavily on how well the relegated clubs ‘adjust’ to life in the championship. 1 Quote

The new manager allowed the transfer to go through but obviously doesn't rate him or doesn't play wingers in his system. 1 Quote

I think we've got lucky. He's had us in contention all season, and even with the sucker punches of the last 3 games it is worth remembering what we are dealing with and what we are up against. But for very fine margins our performances could easily have warranted 7-9 points from these 3 games rather than just 2. I know it is a results business and over the last 10 games they have been poor, but again tonight we deserved more than we got. People have been telling me all season what a great side they are and what a good manager Kompany is. Well if tonight is anything to go by I'm not impressed. JDT had him sussed and but for one attempt from distance or a competent referee we'd have had something. Yes it's time to bring the referee up. Cork should have been yellow carded within 3 minutes of being on the pitch. Then another few minutes later, when he was booked, that should have either been a straight red or at least his second yellow. That let off came 2-3 minutes before their goal just as we were enjoying a good spell. The same referee who had no such restraint or patience when sending Ayala and Garrett off earlier this season, but consistency is too much to expect with these jokers. I haven't seen the penalty again but believe from a screenshot it is blatant handball. Then 4 minutes added time - really? 8 substitutions, 4-5 yellow cards, pitch invasions and warning their keeper about timewasting and the bog standard 4 minutes is considered reasonable? Shocking. Back to the stuff we can control and we are paying the price for negligent management upstairs. It has likely cost us a play-off position and I predict it will ensure JDT walks at the first opportunity putting us back to square one. Once again a couple of good additions in January would have made all the difference in a game like tonight, instead we are bringing Harry Leonard on in a desperate bid to find a goal. It just isn't good enough and the blame for that lies upstairs. They've let us all down. Thought the players put in a great effort tonight and none of them did much wrong. They need to pick themselves up again and give it everything in these last 2 which are effectively pre-play offs, the Millwall game could be a play-off for the play-offs. In some ways it is perfectly simple - if we can't beat Luton at home and Millwall away, two sides we are going to need to be able to overcome in our quest to get the top 6 and progress through them, then is there any point in getting in them or do we deserve to? Superb summary and I can't add anything to that at all in respect of the game last night or the wider issues at the club. One thing that really pissed me off last night though - and apologies if its already been discussed on here I can't stomach trawling through the last few pages of the thread - but who's fucking crackpot idea was it to trot out four of our LEAGUE ONE/THIRD DIVISION promotion side just before kick off to take the applause of the crowd? Surely in front of the Dingles who were about to celebrate being CHAMPIONS of the league higher than that we should either have left it alone or - preferably - got a few of the 1994/95 squad out there to show those inbreds what proper champions look like. If ever anything summed up our current 'tin pot' status it was this embarrassing incident. 3 Quote

I noticed him alright, playing 5 or 6 passes in the first couple of minutes all to Burnley players. He if fundamentally unsuited to how the manager wants to play. Can't take the ball on the turn, crab like slow and a poor passer. Very few strengths and I struggle to think of one Quote

Under plodders like TM, we slouch from season to season with no real plan or ambition. JDT has us in the play off race with 2 games to go, with limited resources and literally no striker. He’s said all season that this is our transition season; we will be inconsistent and mistakes will be made across the board. He’s developed, improved and introduced players like Wharton, Philips, Leonard, JRC, Carter and Pears. Is he infallible? Of course not, he’s made loads of errors himself. But if he was the finished article as a manager, he’d be nowhere near Rovers and we’d be plucking dead fish out of the barrel, the likes of Ainsworth, Coyle, Appleton. Its now down to the recruitment team to bring in the right players over summer and we should be excited for next season. JDT out? Have a word with yourself. 20 Quote
roverblue Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Think that's me done for this season, these last 3 games have knocked the stuffing out of me with our run of luck. Another performance of hard work and grit but devoid of any quality apart from Wharton who ran the show. We create pretty much nothing of note in games or get any shots away, been the same all season. Its really shown how poor our set piece play is in recent games as well where we have had loads of corners/free kicks but done nothing with them. Another goal conceded by pissing about with the ball at the back instead of getting it forward or wide, Carter and Hyam just aren't comfortable with the ball at their feet so much. If we are sticking with JDT then he needs backing with some big money signings in all the attacking positions as well as centre midfield. This current squad combined with his football is painful to watch. Another special shout out for Brereton who strolled about doing nothing again, at one point I thought Smodizc was going to come over and punch him he was getting that irate at him for failing to press or track his man. 1 Quote

Popular Post LDRover Posted April 26, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 26, 2023 (edited) Don't know if anyone has seen the clip of the Dingle player parading the inflatable trophy in front of the Riverside last night post match, goading the rovers fans? Also good to see Kompany come over to him and push him away from there and apologise to the rovers fans. Their players showed themselves to be a classless bunch post match whereas their manager was the exact opposite. We might not like who he manages but he went up in my estimation with that. We are so bad that corners and free kicks provide us with no offensive benefit at all, it is just woeful. I really like JDT, he has done well but just hasn’t been given the tools to do the job, the January window fiasco was criminal. I had to laugh during the second half that every time there was a corner the crowd really started making some noise. I wondered what for as there was no chance one would amount to anything. They were either hit too low and didn't make it past the first man, or looped in high for an easy catch or clearance. If Rovers have a set piece coach his CV needs to be looked at for misrepresentation. 1 Quote

The only chance they ever have of recouping a chunk of their money is if Rovers get promoted - suddenly the club looks like a viable investment. £25m invested in the squad this year would have secured automatic promotion IMO. Appreciate there are no guarantees - but aren't they funding losses similar to that every year anyway? "A report from Deloitte states the winner will earn additional future revenues of at least £170m across the next three seasons. That sum rises significantly, to £300m across the next five campaigns, if the promoted club avoids relegation in its first season back in the top-flight." 2 Quote
