Lenihan is a little agricultural but underneath it all he's a generally very reliable and resolute defender - unlike Hyam. Who turns like the Titanic, is clumsy and loves a 40 yard cross field ball into touch. Quote

NeilInBristol Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Who selected him as our captain? His leadership skills are atrocious. His performances are abject. Needs dropping 1 Quote

I understand your point. Although I'm not going OTT. Just having a moan on a forum of fellow rovers supporters so don't worry!! I thought he was poor against Bristol and he looked like he picked up some urgency against Leeds but that deceived me. Like someone else said, any pressure (ie Newcastle and Leeds ) these lads play fine but as soon as we HAVE to win ala today they just succumb and we need a good leader to rally the troops. Sadly he does not show the required leadership characteristics 3 Quote
roversfan99 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Did anyone say that after not even winning but drawing v Southampton, a game in which he made a big error that nearly cost us that point? Strange argument. Hes as far removed from a leader as you could find, he sums this bunch up. He should have smashed it into touch but lost it for their first. 1 Quote
Popular Post arbitro Posted April 21, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2024 I think back to the impromptu meeting between some fans and senior players which was brokered by Waggott. Hyam was whining about being booed off at half-time by some supporters and the effect it had on the players. That told me a lot about his character. And then the 'calm down' gesture to some Riversiders near the end of the Millwall match when he took the easy option of going backwards instead of forwards. He's certainly not captain material. 16 Quote
tomphil Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 (edited) He has the odd good game but what we saw today again was the norm from him but lets not let Carter or Brittain off the hook either, both shite again. He'll almost certainly be replaced by a rookie or another downgrade. Edited April 21, 2024 by tomphil 1 Quote

Wouldn't it suggest the the "ott" positivity towards the once in a blue moon good result or performance Is the silly reaction!? Edited April 21, 2024 by Armchair supporter supremo 1 Quote

Mattyblue Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 What leadership qualities do you see in Hyam? 1 Quote
SpaceBarSlam Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I've defended Hyam a lot this season as I think he was rushed back from injury before fully fit and hasn't looked right since, but his decision making has been incredibly questionable this season on the pitch and I think he, ultimately, doesn't have the right temperament to be our captain. Captaincy has been a bit of a poisoned chalice at Rovers in recent years. Mulgrew and Travis frozen and then loaned out, Bennett eventually (rightfully) dropped after being constantly shoehorned in to the detriment of the team, Hyam completely out of form and grumbling at the fans. Only really Lenihan who's worked out in the role and he couldn't wait to jump ship. Quote

Pears was poor for their first but he nodded it to a team mate, at that point there is no danger if he helps it into touch. Pears has always been crap, amazing how anyone thought last season he should start over Kaminski. 3 Quote

RTM08 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Ultimately the only person in the squad who deserves the captaincy in Sammie. The fact that he has to watch this clown lead the team out game after game and put in the performances he is doing must be killing him. The second Carter was back Hyam should have been dropped, but no one at this club has the cojones to do what is right for the club at any point. 6 Quote

roversfan99 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 He is the perfect captain for our current mess and not in a good way. Weak, cowardly and soft. Showed himself up in that "secret" selective supporter meeting moaning about the boos. A proper captain says something like "we understand the frustration and arent happy ourselves but will do everything to make it right." Say what you want about Travis' ability and even that he can be petulant but you see leadership qualities shining through. For Hyam its the opposite. 8 Quote
tomphil Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I don't blame him for the Pears horror show that is 100% all his own making. However in regards to Hyam as iv'e said before i'd take Lenihen over him any day. 1 Quote
Bbrovers2288 Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I used to really like hyam but I don’t know what’s happened to him, like a different player this year, just looks like there is a constant mistake in him, need to get rid Quote
Upside Down Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Maybe the club trying to loan him out behind the managers back has something to do with it. Quote
