Thoroughly enjoyed that as a neutral. Three major turning points in the match:

Bellingham's miss - an absolute sitter, he'll be having nightmares about that tonight. Sunderland score at that point and I think the match has a very different outcome.

Ipswich's goal on the stroke of half time - Sunderland looked absolutely demoralised when they came back out for the second half. Whatever Mowbray said did not work.

Hume's sending off - weirdly gave Sunderland a new lease of life, the game totally turned in their favour after this. Despite getting a goal back though it wasn't enough.

A strange game from an Ipswich perspective. For most of the first half they looked totally out of their depth, but Sunderland's defence was exposed a couple of times on the counter and then punished right at the end of the half. Ipswich were then in control in the second half until the sending off, at which point they lost the momentum, but managed to hold on. Teams will get at Ipswich defensively this season, just going to be a case of how many goals they can score at the other end.

For Sunderland it was a classic Mowbray match. Dominating the first half, but unable to score and ended up going in behind. Horrible start to the second half, and even though they had a late flurry it wasn't enough to save them. Their defence was a mess, and attacking wise they were definitely missing Diallo. Think they'll need to strengthen in both areas if they have any hope of repeating last season's tilt at the playoffs.

All 24 Championship sides have played and my for what its worth impressions-

Millwall were very good at Boro

Stoke clinical and impressive in beating Rotherham 4-1

Southampton terribly pretty up front but pretty terrible at the back

Preston were excellent and unfortunate not to win at Bristol City.

Nobody terrifying me yet except the QPR defence in the first half at Watford...

no its not. It about playing to the proper rules finally

Dunno why everyone's so happy about this. Last season time wasting was one of our major strengths.

On a top trump card we may have just lost our highest score.

And doing pretty triangles at the back was second.

Mowbray's right about spotlight on referees. He did add 13 minutes yet nothing for the three subs that came on in that period. All down to the ref but would imagine they come together before next week to make sure all are singing from same hymn sheet. Entertaining for some but not for others.

im`e predicting mowbray is the first manager to get the boot,it`s notoriously fickle up there,if he loses 4/5 in a row then it`s goodbye tony, judging by their  performance so far it`s quite possible

You mean to say they won't just accept 15+ games without a win year after year?

Who do they think they are? This is Tony Fucking Mowbray we're talking about here.

They played over 14 minutes - if it's 30 seconds per sub then that's about right.

Play by the proper rules during the 90 a 1/3 of a half's stoppage time as we have just seen at Sunderland is utterly ridiculous.

Not at all. Teams are time wasting or injuries taking too long. Teams tried to play the game properly then the injury time will be less.

Not sure if adding shit loads of time on at the end is the best solution, flash a few more yellows and that will sort out the bulk of it. But I reckon time wasting will be massively diminished after a month or two of this. Just needs the consistency from the refs.

I have always believed that diving should be a straight red card with a five match ban. You'd get rid of it in two weeks if you did that.

I can clearly recall three matches towards the end of the season when the stoppage time was woefully inadequate. We were so much on top in these matches I was sure in my own mind that had the correct time been added we would have won or drawn (the games were Huddersfield, that lot and Luton). There will be times when we lose out by conceding in stoppage time but I can tell you for a fact that Tomasson is an advocate and is giving it his full support.

I posted on this topic a few months ago after stats were produced showing that the ball was in play for forty minutes of the 90 quite often and a few games went below 40 minutes.

Regardless of the outcome for any particular team, fans are/were being cheated. Football is expensive and we deserve better than that.

If footballers want to play for 90 minutes or just over, stop the cheating.

On Saturday, I thought we were quite good at not time-wasting in added time when the ball was out of play. There were a couple of quick throw-ins that surprised me a little. There is no-doubt that referees will add time onto added time for dead-ball slowdown. I think it works in our favour to keep our momentum in-play.

Let's face it. It is absolutely tedious to watch players flick the ball away, grab the ball after a free-kick goes against them, goalkeepers walking as far away as possible from their six-yard box to retrieve the ball for a goal-kick, players deliberately taking free-kicks far away from the correct spot, etc. When we do that, I always watch and realise that somebody will do it back to us when we are desperate for a point or three. It's a pointless circle.

The authorities created this mess in the first place because they have been allowing it to happen. It's high-time they put a stop to it. They have to try something because they can't just let it get worse. It seems Tomasson agrees.

I was a little baffled by only 1 minute being added at the end of the first half between City and Arsenal yesterday. Other than that it does seem as though a good amount of time is being added both at half and full time in games.

Moaning Mowbray thinks it is ridiculous that 13 minutes gets added from a 45 minute second half. I agree it is ridiculous. But this just shows how much time has been lost over the years with cheating from teams and officials not cracking down on it.

It will be interesting to see how long it gets sustained because no doubt there will be pressure from certain managers and players to drop it.
