If that’s not a job for the boys then I don’t know what is.

at least Rooney is willing to go and have talks with them. I think its a interesting possible appointment. He won't have loads of money there and Its will time to judge his coaching and man management with that set of players.

I thought he did well at Derby but since then, not so good.

To be fair to Rooney he's actually tried to earn his stripes with smaller clubs down the league not just taken on a massive top division job he doesn't deserve.

He's a big name in the game so that does give him a leg up and allowed to start higher than most mind, but he's not totally embarrassed himself the way fat frank or saint Vincent has and he hasn't taken the easy blood money like that smeg Gerrard.

I thought he did alright at Derby given the circumstances but he's not done much since.

Rooney has just a 26% win ratio across his whole managerial career, over 150 games managed.

He's picked 2 rough championship gigs with Derby and Birmingham but it feels like he's not cut out for management.

He's only 38 but feels like he should have spent more time in coaching roles and/or learning the management game before going into the No.1 seat.

If he goes to Plymouth and fails it'll be a life time on the sky sofa for Wazza.

How do you know ‘the squad’ at Plymouth like playing out from the back?

JDT had our squad of deadlegs on the cusp of the play offs playing that way, but they couldn’t wait for a new manager to scrap it once he left.

Wasn't his assistant (Liam Rosenior) allegedly doing most of the managing when Rooney was at Derby?

It all makes sense now. You can see why he did well enough under the circumstances now.

“ playing out from the back “ in our division = staying in the division - if you’re lucky.

And they'd downed tools for the month and a half prior to that as well.

That's a fair point, he's certainly only ever been given a sniff of number 1 because he's Wayne Rooney.

On the face of it, after surviving by the skin of their teeth last season, this feels like comfortably one of the worst appointments they could have made.

Let’s put this way - I wouldn’t have been happy if we’d have appointed him.

It's astonishing how clubs keep appointing former big-name players as managers and expecting them to succeed just because they were big-name players, and despite them having failed as managers at previous clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if Plymouth were in the bottom 3 by January and Rooney out of the door - again.
