I think its a interesting possible appointment. He won't have loads of money there and Its will time to judge his coaching and man management with that set of players. Quote

Upside Down Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 To be fair to Rooney he's actually tried to earn his stripes with smaller clubs down the league not just taken on a massive top division job he doesn't deserve. He's a big name in the game so that does give him a leg up and allowed to start higher than most mind, but he's not totally embarrassed himself the way fat frank or saint Vincent has and he hasn't taken the easy blood money like that smeg Gerrard. I thought he did alright at Derby given the circumstances but he's not done much since. 1 Quote
davulsukur Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Rooney has just a 26% win ratio across his whole managerial career, over 150 games managed. He's picked 2 rough championship gigs with Derby and Birmingham but it feels like he's not cut out for management. He's only 38 but feels like he should have spent more time in coaching roles and/or learning the management game before going into the No.1 seat. If he goes to Plymouth and fails it'll be a life time on the sky sofa for Wazza. 2 Quote

chaddyrovers Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 He won't have loads of money to spend there, so his coaching skills and man management will be crucial there to be successful there and is he wiling to have a plan B Quote
Mattyblue Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 How do you know ‘the squad’ at Plymouth like playing out from the back? JDT had our squad of deadlegs on the cusp of the play offs playing that way, but they couldn’t wait for a new manager to scrap it once he left. Quote

And they'd downed tools for the month and a half prior to that as well. Quote

Let’s put this way - I wouldn’t have been happy if we’d have appointed him. 2 Quote
jim mk2 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 It's astonishing how clubs keep appointing former big-name players as managers and expecting them to succeed just because they were big-name players, and despite them having failed as managers at previous clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if Plymouth were in the bottom 3 by January and Rooney out of the door - again. 1 Quote
