Which former Rover’s do you think would make the best line up for our current formation and tactics?:

I think I’d go for:

                                  Friedel

Emerton        Berg      Henchoz          Le Saux

                       Sherwood   Tugay

Duff                         Dunn                     Jansen

                                 Shearer

Hard to differ from that, in my opinion / experience ☝️

Where did you buy the elixir from? Does that shop still exist?

Do you realise Fergie Suter only plated one game for us?

Where is Jack Southworth in that team? I think he scored more goals per game than Shearer did.

I'm not really 155 years old, although it feels that way somedays lol.

I typed in the 1st rovers starting 11 to win the FA cup from wiki.

I like Rothwell, but seeing him in one of the above teams made me chuckle.

haha, I just put players in that I enjoyed watching the most.  He stands out, Berkovic was another good un..

I really wanted to put Flitters in there, feel like if he'd played for a bigger side he'd have played for England. Quality player!

I put Raya in too- loved his agility and reflexes. Exciting players.   Friedel was class but a very different goalie to Big Brad.

We've had some belting players over the years.. Cole, Jansen,  Speedie etc

Fergus Suter only played one game for us in the Football League. Because it only formed about a year before he retired. But he played for us for 9 years, including playing in 4 FA Cup finals. It was all about the FA Cup back then, even for a little while after the league started.

Yes. Thanks. I realise that now. It was a league match at the end of his career.

I thought the original post was applying present tactics. When under JDT have we played 4-4-2?

My team would be

Freidal

Emerton    Berg     Henchoz     Le Saux

        Sherwood           Tugay

Bellamy       Dunn               Duff

Chris Brown

As we are using today's tactics, the ultimate striker who couldnt score has to Chris Brown.......only kidding it has to be Alan Shearer

Excellent thread. I'm only making one change from the opening line up - Bellamy in for Dunn. I was tempted to stick Jermaine Jones in midfield over Sherwood (his work rate was incredible), but took the option of Sherwood with him being better on the ball. Hendry misses out due to not being the best with the ball at his feet.

I'd find a place for Duncan McKenzie.

Good shout.

Usually worth the admission money alone - a wonderful player in his pomp.

But apparently he didn't like Rovers fans so, fuck him eh?

think the feeling was recipricated in some quarters,my dad hated him,"useless fat waster" was his favourite term of endearment,a bit unfair imo,a young me thought he was quite good

That's a team that would win you trophies right there.

I don’t know were the “ fat “ came from. He always looked in good shape to me. You don’t leap over Mini cars if you’re carrying a bit of excess timber.

like most of the 70`s/80`s mega talented but flawed players ,he was a bit chunky, even the genius frank worthington carried a bit of timber, don`t think those guys were the best trainers🤣,i can imagine duncans idea of warming up was a john player special and a quick slug of brandy
