Mattyblue Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 Filan was a decent keeper, not sure Kelly was anything like ‘excellent’, certainly not by the time we had him in any case. Quote

Filan was a good keeper. I’d say better than either of the two we have at the moment. He was unlucky with the broken arm. 1 Quote
SuperBrfc Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 This is the best thread for it. An outstanding display from Brad against the red rats: 3 Quote

GHR Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 You can have Banks, Yashin, Schmichel, Casillas, Buffon, Kahn, Taffarel, Dida, Toldo, Seaman, van der Sar, Cech and whoever else, we had super Brad. Not a kid played football in Blackburn for the best part of a decade without pretending they were him in nets. I loved him then and I love him now. He and Tugay are my two favourite Rovers ever by a country mile. 2 Quote

He could have dropped back into midfield as he got older and just bossed every game but he just loved scoring so much he didn't bother. As you say, he was phenomenal after his ACL. What would he have been like had that not happened? Quote
Mattyblue Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 It was that second big injury he got at Newcastle in 1997 that changed his game entirely, totally lost his pace, turned into a target man after that. 2 Quote

I think I'm right in remembering that some poor followup from Manure, dawdling on pulling the trigger, is part of why he ended up here. Then he was all set to sign for them from us until his boyhood club came in. Jack Walker quite possibly wasn't going to let it happen anyway, but according to Martin Edwards a contract was already agreed and Shearer was happy to go there. He deserves to be lauded as a legend here for many reasons, but his refusals of Manure's advances are frequently overstated. 2 Quote
