Southgate would have walked on his hands and knees to Old Trafford if he was offered the job,The only reason he's now talking about a career away from football is because none of the top clubs are stupid enough to employ him.

Southgate left the England job without a trophy but with his head held high, England's standing on the international stage restored, the country's most successful manager since Ramsey  and millions in the bank. Why would be put his hard-won reputation at risk by taking on the poisoned chalice of the Old Trafford job?

On another note, it's the battle of the sack in the West Ham v Wolves match tonight. Either manager or possibly both seem destined for the chop

Because despite them being shit most years since fergie left they are still Man U and very few would turn down that job.

i think west ham will win easily tonight, wolves are a basket case, one of the  few around the bottom of the division, west ham have enough quality players to put wolves deeper in trouble

I watched about 10 minutes of last night's game. If Bowen gets injured West Ham are in real trouble. He's like Szmodics was to Rovers last season.

O'Neill has done a decent job at Wolves but is having to deal with their owners seemingly turning the tap off. Over the past year or so Wolves have lost a lot of the players who had them playing well. Neves, Nunes, Kilman, Neto, Moutinho have all gone (more too) without being adequately replaced. It sounds familiar and will end up with relegation.

I think people like yourself underestimate how much the England job meant to him. Think international football management suited him. Don't think Club football would. As Director of Football or Technical Director is a role would suit him more.

He was never taking the United job in the summer. United should have replaced ETH in the summer.

Has he done a decent job? There was a lot of criticism aimed at Bournemouth when he was sacked which I think might have been because he is an English manager. It was similar when Southampton sacked Adkins and appointed Pochettino, Iraola has come in and massively improved them. Wolves have lost key players but they dont have the 2nd worst squad in the league.

Didnt you say they should have backed Ten Hag?

I think he has. Bournemouth finished 2 points ahead of Wolves last year, and without some egregious refereeing/VAR errors they'd have had more points. This year is looking different, but the fact that Iraola hasn't lost his better players during his tenure must be taken into consideration.

O'Neil's biggest issues is his team not scoring goals. For as good as Cunha looks he's got a terrible goal return.

I was just reading that the Sheff Utd owner looks to be reneging on a deal to sell the club now they look like being promoted. He’ll possibly fill his boots and walk away. In another snippet one time 4th division stalwarts  Brentford are apparently on the market for the princely sum of £400 million ? Venkies - “ look what you could have had. “ !

Nobody would buy Blackburn Rovers though....

Just sat in a pub over in Yorkshire and the Utd game is on the TV. The Utd keeper played a short pass directly to an opposing player about 10 yards away. He just squared the ball for a tap in. Isn’t this playing out from the back great.

There’s usually at least one every week on MOTD. Maybe once Pep fucks off from England, we might be able to ditch it in the future.

Statistic's must show it’s affective, just like bloody short corners.

I guess the playing out from the back has been pretty good to us of late. The goal against Hull was really well worked.  Remember the Mowbray days of 30 passes around the back and then a huge hoof to no one in particular? 😂

It's the right way to play.

He did a very good job in keeping Bournemouth up after taking over from Parker sacking and he keep them up

I would keep O'Neil if I was Wolves and allow him some time and patience after they lost their best 2 players

I probably did at some point. I can't remember to be honest but Utd and him should have parted ways after the FA cup final. Given Utd were publicly meeting other managers when he was still employed show how much faith they had in them.

I dont see why, unless you have a particular defensive attitude towards English coaches, that you would logically think that he warrants staying.

He is doing a crap job. To have 9 points after 15 games and be 19th, 4 points from 17th is very poor. Yes they have lost players but they still have a squad that shouldnt be there, and it doesnt scream happy camp playing for the manager when hes changed captain this week due to an ill disciplined strop.

When you sell your captain and best defender then you sell your best attacking player you expect a drop off in league position.

It's a decent squad there but their start was tough.

They are almost half way through the season, he cant blame the fixtures. Their last 3 games have seen them lose to a struggling West Ham leading to their captain losing the plot, an e mbarassing 4 nil loss to goal shy Everton and a battering at home to Bournemouth having conceded 3 penalties trying to play stupid tactics. I dont see why that warrants patience personally, they have some good players that a proper manager would likely do better with and get well clear of relegation. If those results dont raise questions over his future, what results do?

Thanks, I know how many games have been played. Stick with him and back in January with 4 quality signings.

What's a proper manager BTW?

A competent one.

So Gary O'Neil has kept Bournemouth and Wolves in his first 2 seasons as a head coach in his managerial career isn't one then?

Why not back him again to do same and understand that losing your best 2 players was always going to negative affect on the team and league position..

So if you were Wolves owner, would you sack him? Who would you replace him with?

Always?

Aren’t we proof (Wharton and Szmodics) a drop in position isn’t inevitable?

Not always but in alot of cases.

I just think he has earned more time there

Things have not gone well at Wolves this season but O'Neill's record in previous seasons at Bournemouth and Wolves shows that he is a "proper manager".
