It does to me. The fans that pick out a club to support knowing they’re not interested in actually going to watch them but only because they’re successful do my head in. They’re not supporters. Supporters support their club in practical ways and put their hard earned money into it. 
 

Can’t be doing with any of them.

The first thing I remember about my class at school and discussing football as a 7 year old, was quite a few asking, why I was a Rovers fan, when we were in the lower reaches of the third division. My stock reply was, it’s our local club and given our school was slap bang in the middle of Blackburn, stuck with that forever.

We had a mixture of Liverpool, Leeds, Man United and City “fans” and I was probably one of only two Rovers fans. 
 

The big thing for me, was not a single one of them, had even been to a home game to support “their” team, where as I never missed a home game. 
 

I am sure there were reasons why we had a mixture of other fans, but I will always believe that unless you are influenced by a close friend or family member, choosing a team, who are doing well and jumping on the band wagon, is one of the worst reasons, I can think of.

I am a member of Coventry Emerald Celtic Supporters Club and go to home games with them. Only because they pick up at the Warrington junction of the M6 which is only a dozen miles from where I live. Their pub is the Four Provinces on Allesley Old Road (CV5), they’re a decent set of lads and some of them go to the odd Sky Blues game now and again.

A strange coincidence but I had a soft spot for Coventry when I was a young lad. They got promoted to the First Division in 1966-67 (I was at Ewood in March 67 when they beat us 1-0) and struggled to stay up for a few seasons after that. I sort of willed them to stay up and with my aunty’s family coming from Coventry, one of them there sent me up a City shirt. I wore it for football at school in Blackburn and, not unsurprisingly, I was the only lad there wearing one.

Whilst Rovers were playing away, I twice went to watch Coventry in the early 1970s, firstly at Maine Road, then at Turf Moor.

I was at SMC at that period (1969-76) and you were either Rovers or Burnley. The school had the misfortune to have a catchment area including Hyndburn and, at that time, all the lads from Accrington, Rishton etc were Burnley fans. There was a roughly equal mix of Rovers/Burnley with a few Man Utd/Liverpool thrown in.

I've only been to the 4Ps once for a wedding reception or engagement party about 20 years ago. There's now a fake Irish pub/nightclub called Shenanigans on Spon End (the city centre area with all the nightclubs and kebab shops). There's now The Sky Blue Tavern in a building off junction 7 of the ring road that was a big Chinese restaurant for years.

I tend to go to more rugby based pubs like The Gatehouse Tavern, Broomfield Arms or a micropub called Hops D'Amour. All OK for away fans.

Not every one can afford to go and watch their team and given that clubs like Man Utd or Liverpool have a membership scheme and a priority list, so it isn't easy for new supporters to get to watch their teams of those clubs. 

people support teams for different reasons whether family, enjoy watching a certain player like Ronaldo or Messi, etc.

They need to back Amorim. He will turn around but needs his own signings in and get rid of the players he doesnt want. Plus a pre season.

United have had successful club managers, former player legend, still not moved forward to challenging for the league since Fergie left.

I don’t tend to watch much football these days but I was at a loose end so was watching Arsenal against Ipswich and at half time flicked to Brighton Brentford, these guys are 10th and 11th in the league and it’s utter utter shite

It started off OK, Wissa had a cracking 'goal' ruled out and its gone downhill since. Enciso wasted multiple chances too.

I watch a lot of football and the prem is probably my least favourite. Yet we'd be ecstatic to get there a again....it'd soon wear off like, but the cash would make it bearable

So out of all the clubs in Scotland you just so happened upon the biggest and most successful one.

The one that at the time had won 33 league titles.

One of only two clubs in Scotland to have won a major trophy.

Man Utd and Liverpool are out on their own in this country when it comes to sheer numbers, there’s millions of them. They pollute every town, city and village, taking the piss out of proper football fans, letting many local club struggle for numbers.

Why? Because they are far and away the most successful clubs in England, no great mystery to it.

When I was a kid it was all Spurs, then it was Leeds, then Liverpool. Kids at school in Rochdale being Spurs fans ? I take my hat off to the kids who were Rochdale fans down the years.
