Ratcliffe is making a very basic error in trying to implement normal business practice in the world of football. He was involved as a venture capitalist buying several ailing businesses cheaply (the company I worked for was one of them), making radical changes and making profit before selling them on. It's almost the reverse of that at the Theatre of Dreamers. It's a strange relationship between him and his gang and the Glazers. According to this he owns 25% but controls the football side of things.

I’ve seen absolutely nothing to suggest he’s gonna be any better than The Glazers.

In fact, if they’d done all this cost cutting and ticket price increases, United fans would have lost their heads.

United sacked their Director of Football Dan Ashworth after 5 months. They spent just as long trying to bring him in.

Clearly something has gone on behind the scenes there for him to gone so quickly,

Some sources say that there were "too many cooks" and they were falling out. Heard something similar about Ewood Park recently...

I've read various different things from Ratcliffe didn't want to keep ETH in the summer or Ratcliffe unhappy with Ashworth shortlist to replace him and Almorin wasn't his choice at all but the CEO one. Just doesn't seem a good fit at all from what I read and I wonder if regrets leaving Newcastle now

The BBC are saying Ashworth wanted Southgate as the next manager. No wonder they marched him off site.

Southgate always he was taking out of the game and possibly a very different career path.

Not sure he wants to be club manager

The Athletic reported Ashworth wanted a head coach with PL experience. They named 4 names which were Thomas Frank, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Marco Silva

Ange has real JDT vibes for me.... Great when going is good but so brittle, hangs the defence and keeper out to dry.

He'll be gone pretty soon. Shame from an entertainment perspective but even spurs need something a bit more pragmatic.

The first half an hour of yesterday's game was a lesson in how not to set up a team. Both sides were wide open all over the park.

Maresca, to his credit, made changes that turned the game. He is looking like he's going to do well. He's managed to calm the tumult that has enshrined Chelsea over the last few years. He has his squad and has said screw you to plenty of high earners. Having Cole Palmer helps too.

It is no coincidence that Spurs have been on a downward trajectory since Sir Brad turned into Lev Yashin in Cardiff IMO.

Spurs have been Spurs long before Rovers beat them in Cardiff. Ange is from the Ossie Ardiles school of Spurs managers who try to outscore opponents. Once either Levy or the fans have had enough of it they'll move on and hire a defensive minded replacement a la George Graham. Plus ca change...

The hubris and arrogance is there for all to see. Like everybody on here I hope that he fails spectacularly. His "state of the club" review from early this year included him mandating at home workers go back to the office, or leave, and complaining about filthy changing rooms. Very petty if you ask me, and not anything that will aid the football on show.

Here's an ESPN article on Ashworth's tenure. It's not as thorough as their ten Hag one but it's a decent summary. ; ESPN: Ashworth out.

They paid Newcastle £3m for him. Then he promptly paid daft money for a host of players who don't look very good.

Southgate would have walked on his hands and knees to Old Trafford if he was offered the job,The only reason he's now talking about a career away from football is because none of the top clubs are stupid enough to employ him.

Maybe Amorim will be gone by March and we can have the dessert that is Southgate, to finish off the feast of hilarity that has been Utds. season.
