Man Utd and Liverpool are out on their own in this country when it comes to sheer numbers, there’s millions of them. They pollute every town, city and village, taking the piss out of proper football fans, letting many local club struggle for numbers.

Why? Because they are far and away the most successful clubs in England, no great mystery to it.

Its down to each fan to decide who they want to support for whatever reasons. They don't have support their local club.

I support Rovers cos it was the team and club where my dad took me to and it was his club, I have never once regretted supporting this great historic club

Someone from east Lancs that decides to support Man Utd or Liverpool is a dickhead, pure and simple.

Wrong. They aren't dickhead at all, it's there choice.

So for example if a Manchester fan who now lives in East Lancashire cos their missus and children want to live here, so the children are Manchester United fans now cos of their parent is, are dickheads? Interesting comments Matty

I’m taking about born and bred east Lancs folk as you know. Said persons wouldn’t dream of supporting Rovers, their local club as they are ‘shit’.

Like I said such a person is a dickhead and to find said dickheads have a look in the pubs of the area on ‘Super Sundays’, they are full of them (and they largely ain’t folk that have just moved to Livesey or wherever from Newton Heath).

The example I gave was a family who were born in East Lancashire born and bread.

Your bitterness is clear here.

People can choose whoever they want to support. Thank God we don't live by Mattyblue law on who you can support.

The types that Matty refers don't 'support' their chosen clubs though, do they?

They don't travel around, buy tickets, go to games etc.

They just watch them on tv; they don't support them. And they do that simply because those clubs win things.

Trying to get a ticket for Liverpool or Manchester United is much harder then for us. You neend to a member first, then people who have been going longer get priority, etc, then add cost of ticket, travel cost, food and drink, etc. It's expensive trip for once game

Given they can watch their team at home, with no hassle of travelling, parking up, ticket cost, food and drink cost, etc for less than one match ticket cost? Which one do you think some fans will choose? Watch every game of my club for £50 for the year

How can that be good for the general health of football?

I agree but when people can pay a one off fee for less than a one match ticket, it will also be attractive option.

I rather go the game, enjoy the atmosphere, get pre match food and enjoy spending time with family. If I can't attend an away game then watch on Sky or its Radio Lancs for me.

Back to the main point of discussion.

Of course there are some people who align with a particular club for family reasons etc.

The majority of these supposed Man Utd, Liverpool ... 'fans' though, 'support' these clubs for one reason and one reason only, which is because those clubs win things.

As such, they are glory hunting dickheads.

The point many are making is that if more of these 'fans' went to watch football local and live then, using Rovers as an example the facilities might improve and perhaps ticket prices more reasonable.

Could I choose to support (say) Spain despite being English?

Bow locks. The local ManU/Liverpool/etc “fans” are nothing more than than glory hunters. Plastic fans who never attend and watch football only on TV and support them because they’re on TV and they’re “successful”

I remember in the 1960s and 70s coachloads heading off to Old Trafford from Blackburn boulevard on a Saturday morning. It annoyed me then and annoys me now. One of our neighbours is a ManU “fan”. I can’t discuss football with him because to me he’s not a true fan. He’s a traitor to his town in my eyes.

If you live in east Lancashire and  / or were brought up in the area you should be Rovers, Burnley or Stanley. And that’s it.

I remember when I moved down south in the mid 80’s, the abuse I received for supporting “little” Blackburn Rovers.

All the kids around me supported Liverpool, Man United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

School sports days were a constant piss take.

Back in those days and even more so today, I am still proud to say, I support and follow “little”Blackburn Rovers.

I do love the holier-than-thou nonsense when it comes to who you support🤣

There will be people reading this who were born nowhere near East Lancs who will spend more money following Rovers than half the ‘dickheads’ from East Lancs who only turn up at Ewood for the Dingle games and Oxford promotion parties.

There are folk across the country that have great stories as to why they support who they do, all part of this wonderful game of ours.

However, I doubt the vast majority of the *millions* of people across this country in Hemel Hempstead, in Guildford, in Darwen have much of one as to why they support Man Utd.

I daren’t mention where I was born/was brought up (however I will confirm it wasn’t Burnley) 😁😁

They’re just football followers. You’re speaking as a fanatic of your local team. Different breeds. It’s not very Christian to label them all as dickheads😉 But like you, I never engage with them on football beyond banal pleasantries.

One of only two clubs in Scotland to have won a major trophy.

Really?

Aberdeen, St Mirren, Motherwell, Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Hearts, Inverness CT, Hibernian, Raith Rovers, Livingston, Ross County and Rangers have all won major honours during the time I have been watching Celtic.

I can list all the others prior to 1984 if you’re struggling.

I was having a quiet conversation with someone from Coventry, about pubs in the city and about Coventry City. In you butt (once again) about glory hunters at Celtic after having it explained to you at least twice previously on why Celtic supporters generally choose to support Celtic.

You’re the gift that keeps giving.

I feel sorry for them more than anything. Especially young lads who miss out on so much, I.e. memories of great seasons, wins, away days with their mates watching Rovers or whoever because they are a ‘United fan’, often because his glory hunting dad says he’s one.

You’re a Rovers fanatic though as you’re on here.

Genuinely interested to know how you became a Rovers fan?

Brought up in the hot bed of football (Buckinghamshire 😁😁) and was a (deep breath) childhood Liverpool fan (don’t reach for the ban button yet!)

I was a huge huge Kenny Dalglish fan and was devastated when he quit ‘them’

One day I was looking on teletext and the headline was about Kenny joining Rovers - I thought who the fuck are they (sorry! 😳😳)

I looked into this, and the first thing I loved was the kit - I started watching them at the pub (the only Rover fan there) - and that’s how it all started.

When I was looking for what to do after Further Ed college I saw an advert in the paper for the next level of course at … Blackburn College.

So I moved 200 miles from home and started attending matches regularly (and college occasionally 😁😁)
