Not many teams who could do back-to-back promotions and then stay in the PL, I'd wager. Tough result for Ipswich today, but any team could get hammered by one of the big boys considering the sheer gap in finances and structure. They need to try and keep the score down at Anfield and then get back on track at home to Southampton. At this point I imagine it'll be two of Wolves, Ipswich and Leicester to go down with Southampton - but which two remains to be seen.

Ange surely can't have much longer left. He seems to have no tactical flexibility whatsoever which is bizarre for a manager at PL level.

Think about how much Ipswich have spent this season on new players. Next season, they will be promotion favourite

They bought a very good Championship side this summer. They were always destined to struggle in the Premier League.

Says a lot that even spending so much money and the most you can aspire to is being a promotion contender upon inevitable relegation. The whole pyramid is fucked when you consider that most clubs are losing so much money.

The wages get higher, the ticket prices get higher, the kick offs become more and more inconvenient and the football becomes less competitive.

I think Forest showed the way to do it. Take the money and buy as many top quality players as you can.

They're having an excellent season this year and fortunately for them a lot of the rich clubs are doing really shit.

Plenty of clubs survive. I agree that Ipswich probably had one eye on preparing for the yoyo, but I don't think they spent particularly well. They'll be one of the promotion favs next year, but they did put together a very expensive Championship quality squad.

If you can get up and then initially survive you can make a fist of it. We’ve discussed Forest, but also the not exactly ‘massive’ Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Palace. Gates between 10k and 26k and they are looking pretty steady.

Alas, we won’t get up, won’t initially survive and won’t make a fist of it.

Man City need to rip this squad up. Too many past it players and too many sub par ones. Kovacic and nunes aren't good enough.  De bruyne is a year past his best. Ederson looks like he's seen better days. Foden hadn't lived up to his potential.  Lewis isn't a full back.  They need to make huge changes in the summer

My feeling is extreme egotism took over and the club management believed their style was enough to win, regardless of the personnel.

Perhaps, comparable to ‘Wenger-ball’ and how it went from a practical tactic for success to an exercise in managerial self-indulgence.

To be fair to Wenger, Arsenal spunked all their money on that new shit stadium they built and couldn't afford to buy anymore top quality players.

As regards to City I think you're right though, Pep thinking he's some kind of football god and completely ignoring the fact he's had the best players in the world and an infinite budget at his disposal for all of his success.

To be fair to Pep no wonder he’s had a touch of hubris considering the media thinks he’s re-invented the sport and every club down to the Dog & Duck league utilise his methods (badly).

English football is now crafted in his image.

Spurs whining about injuries makes me laugh. Maybe they should just recall some of their on loan players that they stole

They are one of the worst though, didn’t they fly to Australia or similar for a tour the day after the season finished?
