It's not about whether they cope or not, but these cutbacks are minimum compare to the piss poor decisions to give Ten Hag a new contract or signed Casemiro or hired and firing Ashworth. Not given staff a warm lunch is indefensible for me. Ratcliffe has wasted so much money on his own poor decisions. Quote

Millions more saved getting rid of all the dead wood. You are comparing losing money in one area of the business to justify losing money in a different area of the business. Neither are sensible, but you know that already. They are losing money. They need to cut costs. Its pretty straight forward. Quote

They are losing money cos their recruitment has been dogshit and they have overpaid for players and wages. Plus having no proper football management plan. Plus Champions league football. The football side has let the non football staff down. Giving staff a warm meal should be a given tbh for a club of that size. If I was a local food business I would be opening a butty van or shop or cafe near to old Trafford and selling warm food to those employees. A million pounds saving is 2 and half weeks wages for Casemiro. Is that really right? Ratcliffe cutting this is just plain wrong, simple as! It's pocket change at the end of the day Quote
roversfan99 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 They clearly would like to get rid of Casemiro, that terrible signing has already been made though so theres no way of shifting him. Its not particularly relevant. 1 Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 7 Moderation Lead Posted March 7 Casemiro also doesn't want to leave. Tbh, why would he? Unless he goes to Saudi for a gentle jog for 18 months, he won't get that kind of money ever again. 1 Quote
RoverDom Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) It's not outrageous not to give your staff hot meals, I don't know of anyone who gets free food in their job and some work for bigger companies than Man Utd. It's just funny that they can't afford it and shows how desperate times have become. Edited March 7 by RoverDom Quote

It was poor signing to make and then factoring in the wages and length of contract, what were they actually thinking to be honest. Quote

We get a staff canteen voucher which covers a either a hot breakfast or lunch - can also be used if you want to buy snacks like crisps, drinks, etc. Is admittedly a solid incentive to come into the office. I have worked at 2 companies in 20 years where you get an very discount incentive on food. I got a full England breakfast plus toast and Juice for like 3 pounds and Dinners like Burger and chips or Steak Pie, chips and Pea for £2. United could have done similar here Quote

However, football clubs aren't normal which makes the axing of free meals for staff a lightning rod for criticism. I've read articles talking about the football tax that employees of clubs pay. Many day-to-day staff will take less money to work for the club they support. Giving them a free lunch is a small gesture of goodwill. Likewise with Ferguson's stipend. It's a complete loser financially so getting rid of it is prudent financial move but creates more animosity between the club and its fans. The bigger picture is that as long as Ratcliffe and the Glazers are paying Champions League level wages to substandard players who can't get them there they'll have to cut cut and cut elsewhere to offset the lack of that European lucre they so crave. This plus the second round of redundancies has Man U fan groups are telling match goers to wear black tomorrow to signify that the club is "dying". Thousands of empty seats would probably send a bigger message but they are doing something. Quote

Backroom DE. Posted March 8 Backroom Posted March 8 I didn't realise how far ahead Liverpool are at the top. Even if Arsenal win both of their games in hand on Liverpool they will still be 10 points behind. If Nottingham Forest won their game in hand they'd still be 16 points behind! What an embarrassment for a lot of big clubs who have spent a lot of money to be incredibly average. Hard to see the bottom three getting out of it now either. They're all well below standard, and it's likely to be the second season in a row all three promoted clubs go back down. Must be disappointing for Sky, lol. No title race to hype up and the relegation battle looking more like relegation acceptance. I guess they'll have to focus on the best of the rest with the battle for 4th. Quote

No title race to hype up and the relegation battle looking more like relegation acceptance. I guess they'll have to focus on the best of the rest with the battle for 4th. I was watching Man U-Arsenal yesterday and the commentator said that Liverpool have only 3 more points now than they did at this stage last season. Arsenal's gap is now a whopping 15 points with a game in hand. The title will be sewn up before Easter if the status quo is maintained. The game itself was underwhelming. Man U spent over £100m on two number 9's in Hojlund and Zirkzee who managed to make toothless Arsenal look better equipped. Zirkzee plays scared and Hojlund has the first touch of a trampoline. Slot has done remarkably well but he could be in for a rude awakening next season if any or all of the 3 out of contract players opt to leave. Bradley looks like he can replace TAA, but it's nigh on impossible to replicate Salah and van Dijk's contributions. Relegation is all but sorted too. All 3 promoted teams were odds on for the drop before a ball was kicked. Southampton were saddled with Russell Martin. Leicester lost their manager and best player to Chelsea. 2 promotions in 2 years was a bridge too far for a hardworking yet limited Ipswich side. The 2023-24 season was very similar with all 3 promoted teams ill-equipped to avoid relegation. Burnley decided to try to make money by buying project players with a sellable upside rather than trying to stay up. Sheff Utd sold or had to return the good players who got them promoted, and Luton tried their hardest but, like Ipswich, it was too soon for them to build any foundations. Quote
