had.e.nuff Posted February 17 Posted February 17 somebody did not do their due diligence before giving him a contract as he only averages 18 games a season over his all career 2 Quote

But hes been crap for us. Made of glass, slow, soft and a huge disappointment. Really? You were more than happy to unregister Hedges, etc for the signings you wanted. Now you are complaining about Sigurdsson being paid off Quote
Feed the Yak Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Great player technically but he never did the tough stuff and you can't get away with that in this team. Shame as I had high hopes when he came in but he never earned a place in this team. 1 Quote
Polky Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Is a decent finisher, but has hardly played. Wasn’t really worth the pre-signing excitement or hype. It’s a shame, but I wish him the best for the rest of his career. Quote

It was an excuse you was using as to why we werent signing players earlier in the window, which is when I raised the point. The difference is when we had the discussion, it was with time left before the window. Had we told Sigurdsson prior to the window closing that he wasnt going to be registered, or indeed anyone, that would be different as it would allow that player to either seek an exit, agree a termination of his contract prior to the window closing so at least he could move anywhere, or even if it he wanted to sit on his contract. Im not complaining about paying anyone off. I am saying that to not tell a player in advance of the window closing that he wont be registered. But instead only deciding and communicating after the window has closed leaving him somewhat in limbo is really poor. But our January signature move as a club is to fuck someone over, its the third winter running, so no surprise. 3 Quote

Why would he be desperate to go to a manager who (understandably) didnt seem to fancy him even when fit and one who he will see as at least involved in the decision not to register him? Quote
Mercer Posted February 18 Posted February 18 (edited) We don't cover ourselves in glory the way we deal with personnel. Think our name will be mud in the football world. This is shoddy irrespective of Sigurdsson's record with Rovers. Not sure whether the lad had the right mentality but in fairness to him, he never got opportunity in the 10 role which would have been ideal for him to showcase his strengths (technically good and a very good finisher). Lacked pace, physicality and stamina for the wide role where we played him. Had the quality the likes of Dolan and Hedges don't and a shame we will never know how good he might have been for us in a 10 role. Edited February 18 by Mercer 1 Quote
Blueandwhitemike Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Poor way to treat any player and possibly part of the reason JE left. Personally I wonder if it would have been better to keep him rather than sign Woodrow, I know he's not yet fit but still feel he might have been able to contribute in the run in. He's a better player than injuries allowed him to show but like some others have mentioned I would have liked to have seen how he did in the 10 role. 2 Quote
cesus Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Players being frozen out happens up and down the country, I'm all for Rovers leadership bashing but in Sigurdsson's case I have no issues at all. If anything I'd say he has hardballed (which he is more than entitled to do) us by sitting out January and highly likely left yesterday with a better deal than he was offered in a January for a contract termination. The lads body simply wasn't up to the pace and physicality of the Championship. 4 Quote
philipl Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Great shame- plagued by injuries. Let's see if the 26th player is better than Siggy. I doubt it. 2 Quote

Bit soft. 1st two games he played I thought we had a world beater. Shown very little since. Just seen he joined Malmo. Edited February 18 by USABlue Quote
sharpysharps86 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Wish Siggy all the best but it just hasn't worked out. When he broke into the team under JDT it looked like he could become the new talisman to replace Brereton Diaz. Had he managed to stay fit then he likely would've adjusted to the Championship and become a key player for Rovers. Sadly not to be. Quote

KentExile Posted February 20 Posted February 20 (edited) Signed a 3 year contract with Malmö yesterday https://www.mff.se/nyheter/arnor-sigurdsson-klar-for-malmo-ff-2025-02-19/ He scored over a goal every 2 games in his last 2 seasons in Sweden. Surprised he has signed for so long unless there is a low release fee as he will surely fancy another crack at making it in a bigger league, and wages in Sweden are not (to my knowledge) huge The below is translated by Google, so may not be the most accurate "As a footballer, I know that I can help the team both on and off the pitch. I am fast, have good ball control and like to create chances and score goals. But also run and fight for the team. I can't wait to get started." Edited February 20 by KentExile Quote

Craigman Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I do wonder if he had a clause in his contract, that if he played anymore games, we would have to offer a longer contract. 2 Quote

I wonder the same Interesting quotes today in LT In a previously unseen interview with the Icelandic press, Sigurdsson hit out at Rovers' treatment prior to leaving the club. In the aftermath of the decision to leave him out of the squad, he revealed his anger towards the decision. "First of all, I just think it's dishonest with the club, the way they do this," Sigurdsson said. "I've always been a professional in this, always given my all for the club, but then they decide to do it like this. Wait for the transfer window to close and then tell me this. "They put me in an impossible position. My contract was expiring after the season and I've been injured. It's maybe easy to throw someone away when you're not going to renegotiate. "Both the coach and the club's management had spoken to me and told me how important I would be to the team for these last few games in the fight for a playoff spot in the league. That I could make the difference. But then you get this in your face" Quote
