Boring tie, but that's probably a good outcome at this stage. We avoid another Championship team, and a good option to give Phillips and other players on the periphery a game in the first week of the season.

Aren't these ties seeded? Pretty sure we couldn't draw a side in our league anyway.

Nevertheless, an alright draw. Chance to give some fringe players a go.

EDIT: Seeing QPR v Norwich suggests it might have changed this year! Double checked and yes, it has gone - although I'm 4 years out of date! - 2023-2024 EFL Cup / Carabao Cup (League Cup) Stadiums, Statistics, Fixtures and Format | Football-Stadiums.co.uk

Decent draw at home.

Bizarrely i enjoy these games.

Same. Normally a warm night, full of the joys of a new season, loads of kids getting to go as it’s summer hols, get to see some promising academy grads.

Jumpers for goalposts, marvellous.

The cost cutting really has gone too far.

Crowd of 4000?

Who knows. With schools being off I always think games like this are a good opportunity to take kids to their first matches and personally would have made it free admission for under 16's with adult supervision. And you never know, there might be a surge in season ticket sales if they enjoy it 😂😂.

You were going well up to that point!

Had 6,800 for Hartlepool last August, so would expect something similar.

Proving once again that the crowds will come if the price is right!

5 or 6k is absolutely fine for a game like this.

When does the 'The Riverside is shut never seen that before' - 'Fans don't come even when it's cheap' hysteria begin ?

As soon as the club put on Facebook ‘’Tickets now on sale. Please note the Riverside will be closed for this fixture”.

Yet the irony was last season our early round crowds in both cups were our highest for donkeys years.

Probably because it wasn't a guaranteed embarrassing defeat like it was under the previous manager.
