Lancaster Rover Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 I seem to be in the minority but I thought Tronstad did well, made a couple of great tackles getting the ball on the players safe side. Always looked to make himself available and act as a pivot in midfield. The pass from Wharton was incredible but as others have said he gave the ball away more times then he kept it, which is going to happen given his age and the way he plays. When he plays we’re going to need extra cover in midfield I think. We don’t want to blunt his eye for the perfect pass but need to not get left light if we turn it over. 3 Quote

R0verb0y Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Right; I've had a wonderful 1½ hours, reading through all the posts on here from the kick-off to just now. It's wonderful to sense the euphoria; wish we could bottle it!! It's taken me back to the first time I felt such a feeling; mid-February 1975 when, in a crucial Division 3 game at Ewood, we (2nd in the Division at kick-off) overturned a 0-2 deficit v. Plymouth Argyle (1st in the Division at kick-off) and took their place. Utter euphoria; there's nowt to beat it! I hope that 48 years from now, some of you young 'uns - anyone under 28 (my age at the date of that Plymouth game) - will be celebrating another Rovers euphoria moment. 7 Quote

Linked play well and broke up the opposition attacks; it's a very unappreciated position/role and I think he'll be a big part of the team this season. 5 Quote

Tronstad was good after a slow start. Does a lot of the unheralded stuff in the middle of the park. The connoisseurs of the game can see it though! Wharton had a bit of shocker, gave the ball away needlessly in really dangerous positions 2 or 3 times. JDT was going mad at him on the touchline. But he also played the pass of the match. 5 Quote

yankfan Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) Average age of the side today was under 24. While incredibly promising for the future and in general should lead to ambition and growth, a few seasoned plays will help in times of adversity Edited August 5, 2023 by yankfan Typo 2 Quote
Popular Post Gav Posted August 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 5, 2023 I think the bottom line here is, if you’re beating West Brom, with a depleted side, you’re on the right track. We have now brought a few quid in from outgoings, how about backing the manager Venkys? Over to you. 13 Quote

In parts we were excellent against an experienced West Brom side. One thing I do know though was that every player out in the maximum of effort, a trait Tomosson has imparted into his players. And when you do that you always have a chance. Defensively we were comfortable save for a fifteen minute spell at the start of the second half although in truth that was West Broms purple patch. Our centre backs gave the kind of performance that gets results, they won headers, tackles and some great interceptions through excellent reading of play. In midfield we just about shaded it as Tronstadt showed what an acquisition he is going to be. Everything nice and simple and always available. Leonard was really good and will benefit hugely from his excellently taken goal as will Markanday. Szmodics showed exactly why he is fast becoming a fans favourite with his work rate and attitude. I was pleased that Tomasson went early with his changes and going like for like helped us keep our shape. Adam Wharton needs game time but the pass he played to put Leonard in was world class and not many players would see the run let alone be able to execute the pass. After the summer of discontent it was delightful to walk away from Ewood with a win. Well done JDT who I thought tellingly showed some emotion after the second goal. He is normally placid but he enjoyed that 😂😂. Nice seeing you this afternoon T 👍🏻 2 Quote
Backroom Popular Post DE. Posted August 5, 2023 Backroom Popular Post Posted August 5, 2023 As an aside, doesn't seem like we missed out on too much when Kipré chose WBA over us. 10 Quote
M_B Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Thinking back, considering our team was on the small side, and they were like the Harlem Globetrotters, Pears and his defence coped really well from set pieces. 1 Quote

I've been taking a sneaky look at one of the West Brom forums. It's a childish pastime when we win. 😄 Indeed, the comments are "Kipre is Kipre". It doesn't seem as though they rate him. Other notables are that they seem nonplussed with Corberan in general. I know. It's the internet. Everything is exaggerated. Still, I would have thought they have one of the best managers in the league, but they seem quite unanimous in saying that he had an absolute stinker today. Quote

Leonard showed today he's got what it takes to step up in this league and that's great, but he's a young lad and it's not fair to pin all of our hopes on him. He'll go through periods of good and bad form, as all young players do, and we need quality to rotate in that position. Leonard could also pick up an injury at any time, which would leave us in a difficult position - especially with Ennis' fitness a major question mark, and in my view at least Gallagher not being good enough to lead the line regularly. At least one other decent striking option needed for me (ideally with Gallagher leaving) and a better RW option needed to challenge Dolan as well. Exactly, I feel like we need Gallagher to leave and bring a proven CF in, we then need another winger to compliment what we already have. If we get them then I think we'd be serious contenders Quote

Over to the recruitment team to pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat. 2 Quote

I think they're in a similar situation to us, in terms of having owners the majority of the fans (on the forums at least) dislike. That tends to place a dark cloud over everything else. Quote

Mattyblue Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 (edited) No think that’s what plenty of others on here tonight need to do. Fair enough if you are reflecting on the ups and downs of fandom, a load of others on here aren’t. Enjoy the win and let’s debate the game and a good performance instead of a load of posts like ‘god this place’, ‘inundated with negativity’, ‘harmful vibes’, ‘ha meltdowns all week’. Such posts do nothing but antagonise. People love this club and have quite rightly been very worried, they don’t need belittling. Edited August 5, 2023 by Mattyblue 1 Quote
