Quite a few examples in those clips. We look far more incisive. It's a far cry from most of last season. Edited August 8, 2023 by Sweaty Gussets 3 Quote

Hilton positioning poor for the first one, Brittain getting out-jumped for it, as well. Second one is poor from Batty. Buckley is a bit selfish for his and he just barges past Ennis in the aftermath. Sulking or unfriendly? He’s a few places down the pecking-order, he can’t afford to do/be either. Ennis’ finish is really smart. Leonard’s pressing almost reaps rewards, I like him more every time I see him. Letting the kids have a run out and the experience of a lot of goals/shifts in momentum is excellent for them. Pleasing stuff! 9 Quote

Backroom Tom Posted August 8, 2023 Backroom Posted August 8, 2023 Whilst it doesn’t matter much I wish Buckley squared it for Ennis for the 4th 3 lovely finishes to be fair and sounds like Gilsenan really deserved his goal as well 8 Quote

Popular Post Miller11 Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Enjoyable evening out that. Some food for thought for the rest of the transfer window too. I’m now firmly of the opinion that a centre back is our number one priority. I’d also like to see a left back come in. Batty struggled, and while I maintain high hopes for him in the future I think it’s a season too early, probably needs keeping round rather than loaning out as the way the first team play seemed difficult for him. Don’t think we need another winger, Gilsenan looks ready to contribute. Very good performance from him. Ennis looks a proper centre forward, good movement, worked hard, got into some good positions, a promising debut and a centre forwards goal. I’m going to rave about Jake Garrett a bit, thought he was excellent and the change from 12 months ago is immense. He was very neat and tidy, very controlled, worked hard, broke forward and got a nice goal. My MOTM. Buckley was largely poor but showed a couple of bits of real quality. Adam Wharton looked well off the pace, showed a few bits of real quality, but some real sloppiness and resorting to diving in. Brittain very hit and miss too. If Hedges had a bit more quality and composure in and around the box he’d be playing for a top half premier league team. 16 Quote

Popular Post Paul Mani Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Good game to watch… I thought Ennis and Gilsenan were the standout performers. Ennis is head and shoulders better than Gally. Strong, mobile and positions himself well. I think he has potential to score 15-20 goals in that team. Gilsenan - Wow! First time I’ve seen him play and I really liked him. Silky smooth and very gifted technically. Could be some player when he grows into his body a bit. Garrett the pick of the midfielders for me. Was consistent whilst Bucko moves from the sublime to the ridiculous. Big season for him..make or break for me. Adam Wharton is jusr insanely good! Looks a little rusty and was guilty of giving the ball away but half the time he gives it away because he sees things that no one else does. Hedges and Brittain looked decent too. Batty doesn’t look ready to me, neither does Hilton or Barnes after his injury. Overall you have to be happy. The future looks rosey with these young lads. 10 Quote
ItsRoverZ Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 Who do we want in the next round? I'd love a home game or away game to Portsmouth,.don't ask me why lol 1 Quote
Backroom Popular Post Madon Posted August 8, 2023 Backroom Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 Side note: Fair play to Sam Gallagher pre-match. He spent a good 20 minutes signing every autograph and taking every photo that was asked of him from the kids in JW lower. He probably made a lot of kids evenings there. Credit where it's due 👏👏👏 29 Quote
NeilInBristol Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 Gilsenan sounds like he had a great game! Just checked his wiki, youth player at Liverpool and Barca! Wow didn't know. Quote

only2garners Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 4 minutes ago, simongarnerisgod said: did adam wharton play well Not especially. He played a couple of fine passes but also lost possession 2 or 3 times leading to Walsall attacks that a better team would have punished us for. Zak Gilsenan was excellent and deserved his man of the match. He did a fair impersonation of Roy Wegerle. The small crowd allowed me some phone signal at half time and I had a brief look at this thread then. Buckley got some stick then but I thought he had a decent game - he played one of the passes of the game early on and made the best tackle of the night too. He was far from perfect but for me I thought he was fine. I can’t agree about passing to Ennis - if you’re in a scoring position put it away, don’t over elaborate. Maybe if we were 3 or 4 up yes, but not at 3-2. Garrett had another excellent game - the standard view on here is that he is not ready and needs a loan out but most times I have seen him I have been impressed. He doesn’t stand out for defence splitting passes like Buckley and Adam W but he’s always available, always involved and took his goal really well. Brittain seemed to play the same way as JRC, we’ll forward and leaving Barnes exposed, which didn’t help the defence. 5 Quote

Rover8T4 Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 Very good opportunity for the youth to impress tonight. Hopefully they took something from the game offensively and learn from the mistakes defensively. Young Batty wrong side of his man for the one goal which is a lesson learnt hopefully. Worst one for me was there 3rd goal, Harry pickering no where near his man and way too central. Apart from that we can be proud of the lads Quote

Still split in the second round Salford, Port Vale, Bradford City would do for me. A league up, a further test for the youngsters. Or Wrexham for the absolute mindfuck of seeing Mac from Always Sunny and/or Van Wilder on Ewood. 1 Quote
superniko Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 Have we upgraded our catering this year? Food in the image looks a step above recent years. (unless it was purchased outside somewhere and brought in) 6 Quote
