R0verb0y Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 One of my neighbours, Jack Airey, couldn't become a first team Regular in the late 1950s because of the presence of the likes of Duggie, Peter Dobing and Noddy McLeod; and it was 7 or 8 years before the Football League allowed teams to play even one substitute. As a result of that, he only played a handful of games for the first team in the 1958/59 season; the first one back in Division One. He made his debut early in March 1959 in a 4-1 League drubbing of Burnley at Ewood and scored the third goal. 3 Quote
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Would that be Jack Airey who worked at East Lancashire Coachbuilders?...very nice man. Quote
R0verb0y Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I'm not sure @SIMON GARNERS 194; he and his wife are on holiday at present, but I'll check and PM you when they're back. It certainly sounds like him; you couldn't meet a more affable man, imo. Quote
bazza Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I remember the name Airey of a reserve player at that time. Quote
