RoverCanada Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 By my count (which depends given some teams have multiple coaches and if you want to count coaches who did play as a youth...), about 20-30% of PL GK coaches have zero experience as a professional GK. Just saying. #BenBensonFanClub 2 Quote

I think people (well I certainly am) are looking at the difference in the two figures and don’t believe this can be explained by the ‘non football’ element of the wage bill. Rovers wage bill has rarely made sense and the continued cutbacks of it yet losses always around 20 million mark are another source of intrigue. Hopefully the Indian tax investigations will at some point be going through that lot with a fine tooth comb seeing where some of the 200 million has actually gone. 4 Quote

tomphil Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 But we did sign the next Ronaldinho and just gave the money to agents instead of a player. His name was Rochinio Quote

Polky Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 O’Riordan must be waiting for better offers if he’s yet to sign. I would have expected some more news by now. Quote

Or we are waiting for the stupid owners to sign off on the deal. He has played twice since we reportedly met the clause 1 Quote

Can’t imagine too many teams interested in him…Then again it won’t take much for him to go elsewhere. It will be no doubt be waiting for sign off under the current budget. Quote
Torgeir Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 No rush with O'Riordan, he won't go straight into the team anyway. Hopefully they're close to other deals as well, we should loan out one of our strikers and get another one in. If Travis leaves then Garrett is good enough at the moment for first choice, so I think I would prioritise a right midfielder if they're too stubborn to fix the GK problem. Quote

BlackburnEnd75 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Iverson from Leicester is available this transfer window. If they believe the funding issues / Raya money will be sorted in the summer a loan to buy deal would work well, fixing us both short and long term. It was never the plan to be in the market for another keeper this window but things have changed and they have to correct the mistake. Get one in and loan/sell either which ever one gets some interest. 2 Quote

Get one in and loan/sell either which ever one gets some interest. Would love us to sign him... however, they wanted £5m for him back in August, and he's on about 20k a week. Plus, we've just spend £800k on Wahlstedt... after signing that off, they'll have to leave him between the sticks and hope that he becomes good. All about development, who cares if we ship goals and plummet down the table? 1 Quote

tomphil Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Does nobody else feel we should forget about these development signings right at this moment and concentrate on something that can come in and contribute now ? Making room in the finances and maybe selling someone just to get in another 500k kid from a lower league is playing a lottery we don't need right at this moment. Doing that with Markandy 2 years ago maybe contributed to us losing a top 2 spot. Now we just need to start getting points on the board. Wouldn't do any harm to bin the high risk (for a club with no money) long term development strategy just for one window even if we only use the brass for a couple of loans. 1 Quote
