JDT is the head coach but I think JDT has won the battle to keep Gallagher here. He is full of praise for him last week

Unless sending him out allows us to bring in someone better, letting him go would be barmy.

For 2 mil, we should be able to find a good replacement for him but if the money wouldn't be invested than its only weaker us. I can think of 2 good replacement for him who would cost similar fee

Maybe they’ll offer us a straight swap next, Hirst for Gallagher ?

Hirst is injured hence why they want Gallagher. Also Hirst has played a major part in Ipswich being in the top 2 this season

I reckon if we were operating normal, most people would be happy with selling him and replacing him with someone better. But it's likely we won't even bring in someone worse.

Sadly yes, this would likely be the case. I disagreed in another thread with the idea we couldn't replace SG for £1.5m - as many of the league's current top scorers cost less than that - but the chances of enough money being reinvested and/or our recruitment team finding a suitable replacement seems highly unlikely to say the least. Gallagher is at best an average Championship striker, but Ennis and Telalovic have been worse than that - with the former seemingly barely able to stay fit for longer than a week - so selling Gallagher now seems pointless. If we can keep him fit to play 10-15 of our remaining games and he scores a handful of goals it might be enough to keep our heads above water.

It's all so depressing to think about though, as even if we stay in the division this season I see no hope for us next season unless there is an unrealistically dramatic shift in our owners' mindset and their ability to fund the club properly. I get the feeling next season could be even worse than 2016/17.

Get rid is my view, probably our highest earner with zero contribution - the fact people are saying he's out best defender, maybe we reinvest the money into a tall defender

When hes fit he does contribute. Much more than the other forwards. Assuming we get nothing to replace him or just a loan, do you still sell?

And do you disagree that he is an upgrade on the other 3 strikers?

not sure what the ipswich manager sees in travis and gallagher, they certainly won`t help their automatic promotion challenge,a midfielder who can`t pass and collect yellow cards as a hobby and a striker who is never on the end of balls in the box

Apart from the pass for an assist on his debut with the team second in the league on the weekend.

Exactly, the offers the square root of Jack shit, the fact that the best thing people can say about him is he wins the odd defensive header says it all. He's supposed to be a centre forward ffs.

If we sell him for £1.5m and don't replace him so be it. We're wont be losing anything on the pitch and will be banking £1.5m.

It's not a Nyambe/Lenihan/Rothwell/ BBD or even Travis situation whereby we would be losing one of our better players or even a useful one. He's an overpaid liability who should have been offloaded long ago.

What will we do without that solitary goal in the second half of the season? Even on his best form he'd only be scoring 3 or 4.

Would you genuinely play Ennis, Telalovic or Leonard over him? Especially considering that the owners you keenly defend will as you touch on likely pocket the money and not reinvest any. We wont be banking it, the owners will.

He is a bang average Championship striker, he will get you 8-10 goals a season, hes quite quick, powerful, strong, decent in the air in both boxes. A fairly well rounded player who will never threaten the top scorers chart. Offering far more than the other 3 strikers we have and probably about standard for a lower mid table side, every team below us would have him in the side.

It shows the state that the owners have put us in that he has become so important, but there you go.

None of the people that have justified a potential sale have gone on to say that any of the other 3 strikers are any better, because they clearly arent of the required standard, and many of those who have are deluding themselves into thinking that we would reinvest and get an upgrade. A normal club with interested owners, a totally different dilemma and one that would surely lead to a sale.

I think Leonard can develop into a better player but not this season.

He should be used this season coming on for the last 20 mins of games or out on loan.

Ennis so far is a gamble that hasn't paid off and probably will be loaned to a league 1 side and then sold in the summer. With his goal return from last couple of seasons worth a shot but one of those players who can't make the leap up to the physical requirements of the championship sadly.

Gallagher we need to keep as we won't have any of the funds to reinvest in a new player so best to keep what we have and get him fit.

Our wage bill currently is probably down 50% from what it was 2 seasons ago but come the summer, Venky's either need to have solved their tax issues and be ready to invest or sold us to people who will invest. We can't have another season like this one as the squad just isn't there to cope.

I think Leonard will go on to have a better career. Telalovic I haven't seen enough of and god knows what happened to the Plymouth version of Ennis - maybe he's just a good L1 player.

If they're not selling Gallagher it's almost certainly to do with having an extra player who can head the ball in our box for set pieces. We're an unbelievably soft touch for any ball in the air at the moment.

Skint club not selling a striker who’s contract is running down for a million plus because he can win headers… in our own box sounds about right for the upside down world of Venky-Rovers.

If you look at the overall contribution our fit strikers have made so far this season, and compare it to Gallagher's short cameo last Saturday, then it's night and day. He has his obvious shortcomings, but I think JDT rates him for a reason. Besides, why would Ipswich want him if he's that bad?

We know any cash from £1m or so won't be reinvested, at best we get another 19-22 year old loan who has anything form 10-30 professional games under his belt.

Seeing as we are sleepwalking into a relegation battle I think I would rather keep our most experienced striker for the season, despite him not being great.

In fairness, if Gallagher does stay and subsequently win some headers, it could very well stop us conceding more goals and therefore boost our points tally….

All this talk of a bang average championship striker, we are not even a bang average championship team.

Is there better forwards? Yes

Do they play for us? Fuck no!

We are in a relegation battle and letting anyone be sold so we can fund the loan of a premiership kid who will take a few months to find their feet is madness.

I think some people still think we are trying for the playoffs.

Gallagher would have been more use at West Brom as a centre half after Hyam's woeful performance.

The question is why rarely wins headers in the box as a centre forward

He rarely finds himself in the oppositions box and we've not got anyone who can cross a decent ball in sadly.

I don’t think he likes the physical contact that jumping with close marking opponents involves. He can jump fine if he’s not opposed.  Maybe he wants to maintain his “ good looks “.

Regarding the rest of his game - he doesn’t sense opportunities , he doesn’t gamble on defensive errors or ‘Keeper slip ups, and he’s nearly always on his heels when the ball does arrive.

Hard to really get into this window knowing we are cutting again rather than enhancing, imagine there will be a few more loan kids coming in.

sigh, this club is exhausting, has been for a long long time. My enthusiasm for football has drained considerably.

thing is the future doesn’t have any light at the end of the tunnel , can’t blame supporters who throw the towel in

Erm, we'd have to have someone putting crosses in - not something we've been blessed with in recent years (Cambridge cup game excepted).

Do you think Hyam was promised something entirely different when he entered the building compared to what has actually happened? He's been poor this season, but after his injury especially he's looked terrible. Disinterested and there's something off about him. Rusty, still injured or there's something else going on there behind the scenes...

Wouldn't be surprised if they knew about Hill leaving a good few weeks earlier than was public knowledge and he was massively rushed back in out of necessity.

He was probably promised we would compete with the club he was leaving, which we aren't doing.
