TheRevAshton Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 (edited) Just seen that Louie Sibley and Max Bird both have contracts expiring at the end of the season, seems like a no-brainer to try and nab one of these (preferably Max) on the cheap after selling Adam? jim mk2 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 What happened to the Phillips (Liverpool) and Yates (Swansea) links? Two good players who might have made a difference 1 Quote

He’s the long established club captain. You obviously have a very poor opinion of his character. 3 Quote

roverandout Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 (edited) Honestly couldn't give a toss about rovers anymore. The club has zero excitement factor Edited January 31, 2024 by roverandout 1 Quote

I'm sure it is but if I had a £5 note for every time I've seen a player move to the wrong club and see their career go down the pan I'd be reasonably wealthy. It's like anyone changing jobs, you've really got to want to do it. Quote

JDTs style of play is heavily reliant on that, and as recently as Monday night their goal came from a Garrett mistake in a dangerous area. You say Travis' doesn't suit JDTs style of play, but which of those 4 (assuming Tronstad is a mainstay now) is going to play alongside him to great effect? JRC also had a couple of cameos in midfield before his injury and I'm not sure he has the discipline or know-how to play in a fairly exposed midfield. As things stand we've lost two first team midfielders (one the best player in the team IMO and irreplaceable with the current crop), and we've brought in a relative unknown from Brighton who struggled at Coventry earlier in the season. It's not good enough, and if we don't address it I'm expecting a real slog from now until May. We had a good run earlier in the season with a cm of JRC and tronstad. Wouldn't mind that again but JRC is currently needed at right wing back or right cb in the current system and at right back in the 4-2-3-1. If we are commiting to playing this new shape then a pacey right wing back would really help to allow JRC to play inside 1 Quote

Could come to shit, but is clearly playing some good football and finding the back of the net. A big move for a US player (coming to England), so if he seizes the opportunity, we will benefit. 2 Quote
BankEnd Rover Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 If Mcguire is coming to us this window then i think we will go for Yates in the summer when Gallagher leaves. Quote
Lancaster Rover Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 If Adam is unhappy enough about leaving then he doesn’t sign a contract with CP. Nobody has a gun to his head, let’s not get into hysterionics and paint a picture of the lad being frog marched at gunpoint into the PL and 50k a week. I’m sure he would like to stay until the end of the season but liking in an ideal world and reality of the football industry are 2 very different things 3 Quote
jim mk2 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 There's some clips on YouTube on McGuire, certainly a big athlete with a physical presence. Not too sure if that's much of a recommendation though - Telalovic looked good on YouTube too Quote
CambridgeRover Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Still think we need a rw more than a striker. I wish adam would stay, turn down crystal palace lad wait till summer Quote
sharpysharps86 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Looks like Maguire is joining, unless the club manage to make a mess of it. Let's hope he can bang in a few goals and take some pressure of Szmodics. CB, CM and LB please. 1 Quote

The line coming out of Ewood has been the same since the summer. Adam needs AT LEAST a full season here before he moves. Tomasson, Broughton and Waggott have all gone on record saying this, some as recently as a fortnight ago. Phillips and Wharton were seen as two players we would build a team around before their inevitable big money sales once their value was at an optimum. Yet we got less than 50 games total out of the pair of them, and less than 10% of what we’d hoped for with Phillips, admittedly much of that was out of our control and grabbing agents and rules that favour big clubs got in our way. Now it seems we are backtracking on everything and selling Wharton for a fee significantly below the figures we’d hoped for. There’s also a lot of 2+2=573 going on regarding his contract. Apparently he signed a deal in December to “make sure the club got something out of him and didn’t do a Phillips” according to Twitter. Well, he was already under contract long term. This new deal was a reward for his improved status in the team - if we’d have been selling him under his old deal, we’d be paying him less to settle in the event of a sale, so it’s cost us, not rewarded us. There’s obviously been a shift in the clubs attitude over the last week or so. Despite assurances court delays wouldn’t impact the day to day funding of the club. The whole thing stinks of desperation on Rovers part. 11 Quote

I swear if we bring him in, at 36 years old, right after selling Adam... then I give up! Twitter rumours that he'll sign today. It's twitter though, so hopefully complete bollocks. Why in god's name would we sign a 37 year old centre back but the owners refused to sign a 32 year old? 1 Quote
TheRevAshton Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 How much would Basel want for Liam Millar on a permanent do we think? He's quality. Very unlikely, but how hilarious would it be if he had to terminate his loan with PNE early to come and sign for us 😄 1 Quote
