He is a good player and experienced but hes in a position we dont need and hes slight and not the quickest. Maybe youve watched Sunderland and got the wrong player like we apparently did with Ennis. 7 Quote

Quality midfelder. Reasons this won't happen: a) We've got no money b) He would require either a transfer or signing on fee c) He's 30. We have a policy of not signing players of that age d) The attitude at Rovers is why bother bringing in a permanent transfer when the job can be done by either an academy lad or youngster on loan. Upside Down Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 8 hours ago, tomphil said: Yes this is the transfer that should kick off the rebuilding of the squad with the aim of growing and trading into a promotion challenging team inside the next season or three. But... As usual here there is an excuse why this won't happen and the entire pot less wage and maybe 500k will be swallowed up in running costs. The 'real' plan here by the tinpot operators here is to throw in youth, freebies and regular 500k + add on kids and put championship mins into them quickly. Low wage earners can then be punted on after 2 or 3 seasons for a couple of million + add ons before they want a bigger wage and their is still value in their current 4 yr contract. Other championship clubs will buy them and pay them more if they aren't good enough for big Prem bids and all proceeds less the odd 500k will go towards running costs. Owners input gets smaller, running costs keep getting cut and those in the middle are well rewarded on their cushy number. That's the 'plan' in Waggot and Shadows office, forget Brentford, promotion, significant re-investment it isn't happening. The only thing that will happen is to try and keep the club at Championship level as that is vital for the plan. Low budget, low ambition, low buy/sell fees unless we strike it lucky with the odd biggie but Whartons like the Jones's etc only come along once every 15 yrs. If you don't invest in some quality along the way yourself it's a long empty road. Lots to be had in agent fees with this model. 1 Quote
BankEnd Rover Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Nat Phillips on his way…Happy with that. 3 Quote

Ricky Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Phillips would be a great signing for us to cover for Carter Quote

Striker + 1 more for me, maybe someone who can cover both full back positions Quote
BG1492 Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Nat Phillips exactly what we need imo. 6ft 3, experienced for a 26 year old. Played a massive part in Bournemouth promotion a few years back. 3 Quote
islander200 Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Also means we won't be rushing O' Riordan. If Phillips happens that won't be a cheap loan wages wise for us Quote
TheRevAshton Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 (edited) Really happy with Nat Phillips, just what we need after Carter’s unfortunate injury. Just need a LB, RW and an experienced ST now… won’t hold my breath 😅 Edited January 27, 2024 by TheRevAshton 1 Quote
RoverDom Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 I rate Phillips. That season liverpool had every defender out injured, he was an absolute rock at the back and was a big part of the reason they got top 4 that season. I reckon he could do a job at a mid - lower prem club so of we're getting him that's a decent bitbof business. 7 Quote
rovers11 Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 We are making a good signing! Forgot what that feels like. Did sense that JDT seemed strangely positive in his presser last week about incomings before the deadline. 2 Quote
davulsukur Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Is Phillips any good? He's not made many appearances for a 26 year old. 1 Quote
RoversClitheroe Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 10 appearances in 2 years tells me all I need to know. 1 Quote
