Alright with that, saw him play a few times for Liverpool and he never looked out of place.

Isn't a downgrade on Hill, imo.

Let's see if that final piece (or two) of the 'absolute minimum requirements' jigsaw falls into place in the next few days.

He looks massively inexperienced for a 26 year old! Only 60 career appearances apparently.

I get where your coming from totally but I mean in terms of playing in certain games he’s experienced.

17 times for Bournemouth when they finished 2nd & got promoted.

Quarter final (both legs) vs Madrid in the champions league & about 20 games in the prem that season.

Think it’s a good signing but we shall see.

The experience he has, albeit limited, is pretty much all at or above our current level. So it looks a solid signing.

At 26 though, he should have many more games under his belt. If I was him I'd be looking at this being an opportunity to get a permanent move (here or elsewhere) as it's not happening for him anytime soon at Liverpool and in 10 years, he might well look back and think he could've done things differently.

He's local as well isn't he? Wasn't his dad at Bolton in some capacity?

Played over 300 games for them

26 years old 19 apps for Liverpool...strange one...been injured alot?

I think fitness wise he's alright. I know some Liverpool fans who think he's been unlucky to not get more game time after his performances a couple of years back but he's a bit of an old school centre back who doesn't do the messing about at the back malarkey (obviously a bit of an issue for us if he's asked to do it)

That sounds more promising. Can’t claim to know much at all about him, but it sounds like he’s performed well in spells. No shame in not getting into the Liverpool side regularly, but I was surprised to see how few career appearances he had.

Liverpool bought him as a panic buy a few years ago if I remember as they had a lot of defensive injuries. He was one of the championships best centre halfs that season. Not had much game time but he's got to have something about him training with that quality week in week out.

That might be Ben Davies from Preston you have confused him with.

Not too sure about Phillips. We need experienced heads and less than 70 senior appearances and less than 10 in 2 years is quite simply not that.

Quality wise, question marks there too. Celtic fans thought he was hopeless:

He certainly isnt the best on the ball nor the quickest so will take a change of style to get the best from him.

All that being said, he has had spells at good levels so he has a bit of calibre, and he isnt totally untested.

Think it tells us we're not able to afford Cresswell so moving onto plan Z

Quarter Finals in the Champions League against Real Madrid?

Not good enough to play against Plymouth and Millwall for mine. Panic loan.

Dear god talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

I think some people on here need a reality check when it comes to signings

Who or what were you expecting ffs ?

Considering our finances this would seem on paper as good a signing as we could make

One thing O'Riordan and Phillips will give us some added height which we obviously need, if the latter signs.

Im guessing that to Tomasson, it will be a case of Hyam plus one if we stick to a back 4. I guess that with O'Riordan being younger it might initially be between Phillips and Wharton, the latter has been in favour much more lately.

He mentioned in his latest press conference that he hasnt been able to have the flexibility to play a back 3 due to a lack of options and obviously went with that against Huddersfield but we looked imbalanced and we lacked a goal threat. If he wants to use that, I think it would take some tweaking if it was to work. Rankin Costello would help at right wing back, and the balance of the midfield would IMO need to change, Garrett looked out of place playing towards the right and it could do with an extra attacker supporting Gallagher and Szmodics who doesnt really suit that way of playing.

Admist the options of Hyam, Wharton and Phillips in particular, I havent seen O'Riordan play before, theres a lack of pace and although Hyam is decent, the other 2 arent ball players.

When I have seen Phillips, he has looked quite slow, not the most elegant on the ball and is quite rash and aggressive. He is strong in the air and quite old school. Is he a JDT player? Not too sure about that.
