Sounds like Carter and Hill are replaced with ORoirdon and Phillips.

Can anyone make an argument for us to have improved at centre back?

I mean, most of us expected no signings, so technically that's an improvement...?

Positives I can find:

Seems to be local, so should be comfortable and happy in the area.

Played well against us for Liverpool and Bournemouth.

More experienced than Hill, who he essentially replaces.

I think some people on here need a reality check when it comes to signings

Who or what were you expecting ffs ?

Considering our finances this would seem on paper as good a signing as we could make

Have you seen Phillips play this season? He's a complete donkey.

The goals against column is somewhat of an arguement.

Even if with the limitations, it is the best we could possibly get, it doesnt mean that people shouldnt be able to question whether he is what we need, whether he suits the style we play, whether be improves us, whether his lack of general game time especially in recent years is a concern, whether he is good enough etc.

If we are limited to loanees, then considering most are usually kids with minimal experienced, maybe game time wise it is as good as we could do. But it doesnt mean he is sufficient to solve our problems.

Well let's actually see them play  first before judgement.

Adds height too, as does ORoirdon. I’m slowly coming round to it.

We can make an "on the face of it" judgment surely?

We will wait, there is no choice but that doesn't look like improvement.

Given our financial position it would be a miracle if we simply kept the status quo.

Wouldn’t us scraping the barrel be a consequence of the current climate?

Apples are apples mate….The point is what more do people want? The lad has played champions league football, and played at the high end of the championship. Sounds like he’s had a difficult time at Celtic but let’s not say he’s shite now.

With 5 days left I was expecting ALOT worse and another youngster.

Why, have you ?

Yes I have. My Son in Law is a Celtic season ticket holder and I went with him to watch them play St Mirren. Phillips started that game and was awful and his performances didn't improve after that either with an Own goal at Kilmarnock perhaps the lowest point. There is a reason that he is nearly 27 and played less than 80 senior games of football.

I will wait to see how he gets on in a Rovers shirt as not bothered what he has done for anybody else.

Players don’t fit into every club, management styles etc so don’t look into the past too much.

I remember a Chelsea fan laughing when we signed Le Saux. “He’s facking awful.”

We don't normally get a sniff at loans of this calibre, so I'd be really pleased if this comes off. We all know striker is the key signing, so fingers crossed on that one once this is hopefully confirmed. It's not too late to put together a playoff push if we recruit right and get the injured lads back fit.

Obviously he gets a clean slate.

But people are still allowed to talk about his pedigree and his experience, if he’s potentially coming to the club, that stands to reason.
