But it didn't benefit them to give him to us permanently now, but does benefit us, so if they were sensible they'd have insisted on a token fee. I mean surely it's worth 50k to us to free up a loan spot if we think we might want to name more than 5 loanees on a matchday. Unless there's some special exemption for precontracts to take effect immediately if the player's registration has been suspended due to the Ukraine war. Quote

RoverDom Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Can we even physically make payments to Russian clubs? I thought that was the whole point of him having been on loan for the past two seasons? 2 Quote

I'd still expect CSKA to refuse to free his registration up then, as a bit of a 'fuck you' to the West for taking a player off them due to the war. Doesn't hinder them to keep hold, unless they're somehow still obliged to pay him in some way meanwhile, which I can't imagine since they have no right to use him. Anyway this is getting a bit off piste now I suppose. Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 i hope mcguire is more brian mcbride and less cobi jones😁 not watched the mls for ages,it was north west counties standards when i used to tune in a few years ago, though there have always been some useful usa players,i.e john harkes, brian mcbride, landon donavon, christian pulisic etc Quote

LeftWinger Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Gutted that Wharton is going and no doubt we won't spend much of the money....but it won't harm us in the short term. We win more games when he doesn't play as he's still not great defensively. 1 Quote

As soon as a club from a higher division/level comes in you are duty bound to arbitrarily find an example of a player of a similar profile that went for a similar amount and proclaim it a fair price. The selling team should in no way consider the impact of losing the player on the teams performance. The purpose of a football club is to develop and improve players for others these days, apparently. I can think of a few who’ll be delighted at this, then get back to begging for an u21 pl loan so they can use wyscout to make them seem like messi, I think it’s a from Wigan thing Quote

I'm highly confident it's a joke, yes. The player hasn't even moved yet, why would the DoF have done an interview saying we're retiring his shirt already? I also can't find any trace of it online.
