Backroom Tom Posted November 7, 2023 Backroom Posted November 7, 2023 Sad news, a definite ‘super fan’ if there was one Rest in peace Birdy Quote
Mercer Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Indeed, a 'super fan'. Think it's clear, Rovers were a huge, huge part of his life. Can recall, as though it was yesterday, his photo in the LT holding a banner on Nuttall Street with the words 'Lee must stay' when Newcastle came calling back in 1975. Thoughts, as always with someone's passing, are with the family. RIP Alan. Edited November 7, 2023 by Mercer 3 Quote
Penwortham Blue Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I didn’t really know Birdy, aside from a nod of acknowledgment. However, having followed Rovers for fifty years and seeing him home and away in all those years, it will be strange that he will no longer be there amongst us Rovers fans. RTID Birdy, RIP. 7 Quote
Popular Post arbitro Posted November 7, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2023 Terribly sad news. Alan was a Darrener and I remember in the late sixties catching the bus to Ewoodand he would be decked out in blue and white. He lived and breathed Rovers and when I hear the words 'true fan' I think of Alan. His loyalty and passion knew no bounds and he was always positive when I saw him at away matches and asked him for a prediction. He sat in front of us at Millwall which was the last time he saw his beloved Rovers. For his many friends and family match days won't be the same. I really hope Rovers do something special in his memory. Sincere condolences to Annette and his family. 20 Quote
Stonesrick Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I remember him going back to the 60's. Top supporter and a character. RIP Birdy. Condolences to his family. Hope the club deem it fit for a minutes applause. 4 Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted November 7, 2023 Moderation Lead Posted November 7, 2023 If you want a definition of ‘super fan’ it would be this person. He lived and breathed Rovers, don’t think he missed a game in years, went on all the pre season tours, no matter where they were. Rest in peace, Birdy. Thoughts with Annette and the family. 4 Quote
Sweaty Gussets Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Was Birdy the guy who has a house on the side street at the end of the DE car parks? I think there are life-size cutouts of him and his wife in the windows! RIP Condolences to his famly and friends. Edited November 7, 2023 by Sweaty Gussets 1 Quote

Sweaty Gussets Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Just now, arbitro said: That is his house. Cheers. Hopefully some kind of fitting tribute is planned. Fans like Birdy are few and far between in the amount of hours and money they put into following their clubs. 1 Quote

Ianrally Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 How very sad, a true Rovers legend, only one year older than me so must have started going about the same time. RIP Alan, sleep well and do your best looking down from above, the same as you did from the terraces for all the years. 2 Quote
