Norbert Rassragr
Everyone wants to play tippy tappy Pep football without realising that you need a full squad of amazing players to do it. Or that a direct, punch in the face style can sometimes be just as effective.

They buy physically big players and use corners, long balls and avoid tippy tappy more than often because they know that's not the way to win games. Will be interesting to see how this evolves. I don't think our lot would fight to keep JE as the new structure appears that he isn't integral to the running of the club, he's the coach and therefore likely deemed replacable. Since the transfer window closed, everyone else has stepped into the background. To me, there is no doubt that he is in total control of the playing side, much more than just being the coach. (Them lot will " do the rest" ) He's doing a good job so far. Kept us in the league and now unbeaten so he will get some interest (especially from the manager merrygoround owners at Southampton)

Obviously I'm only going off what I see and read, but he appears to know what he wants and demands of others to get it. I never really went with the recruitment/coaching division thing that was banded about.

He's the Head Coach, which is much nearer to being manager than the old first team coach role. To the players he is still essentially the manager. I think we would fight to keep him, but would probably lose the fight. We are a Coyle type appointment away from it all going tits up. I guess /my understanding is that it's like this- Manager - fergy, Wenger, pep etc have overall decision about recruitment who they want who they see as a fit for the squad and the club. Gets to identify players and chose who they want in the squad. Coach - slot, potter, Ange p etc Given players by the recruitment team headed up by director of football or another title and the coach literally coaches the players, has some input but doesn't pick the players to recruit but reviews and agrees/deals with what's presented. This role picks the team and runs the overall drills for the training with a team of coaches around them. I think from reading whats happened recently, my interpretation is that them lot had that director/coach model and it didn't go to plan with greg/jdt so they changed it to Rudy/JE (eventually, as obviously JE came first). JE is a coach/head coach but not "manager" in the sense of daily operations of the club and decision making around anything outside of the squad. Norbert Rassragr
I don't want Eustace to go. Things are looking decent right now, and whilst he'll have the rug pulled from under him in January, I want to build up enough of a buffer to avoid another relegation battle. And we know that we'll get another Owen Coyle type to replace him. Waggott and shadow man will make sure some goon who is easy to control will be in place for the next youth team fire sale.

Yeah, I'd guess nothing happens in terms of team affairs without Eustace's say so,or at the very least his involvement.

I mean he won 4 games in 18 I think last season at Rovers... And in 22/23 - the main season he was at Birmingham as he signed October 22 - they finished 17th (!!). Its a massive for a premier league club to go for a manager whose record has been pretty poor in the Championship except a run of games at Birmingham at the start of last season and five games with Rovers this season... I cant see it personally. Just very hard to justify a premier league appointment on that data.
Norbert Rassragr
If it was an established Premier league team, then OK. Someone like Brighton, Brentford or West Ham. Southampton are not at that level yet, just went up, and look like they'll do a Burnley and sink quickly. He'd then be at a club with a relegation to his name. But I cant see how board or whoever will decide picking a manager in the Championship who has achieved so little (so far) as a good idea. islander200
I think Eustace is doing an excellent job but he isn't getting a Premier league job at this point Even if the teams tipped for promotion in this division Burnley,Sheffield United, Leeds...I don't think they would be in for him By all accounts he had done decent at Birmingham but when he was sacked a few jobs in this division became available and passed him by. Prem clubs and promotion expectant clubs are not going to be in for him on the back of keeping us in the division and the excellent start this season, we are 5 games in. If Russell Martin got sacked tomorrow I'd bet my life on it that Southampton wouldn't be approaching us to speak to Eustace Of course if the form continues and he continues to develop the side and we are up in the playoffs then we are at risk later on At the moment it would just be clubs like your stokes Hulls norwichs etc and although those clubs spend more money and their owners are more ambitious they are also more trigger happy and sack the coaches .If we are doing well ,and they ain't selling the team from under him then he wouldn't be jumping at those jobs as he is near guaranteed to see out his contract here without fear of the sack just by keeping us in the division In all fairness with very little money spent our squad isn't looking bad early days I know
