Basically every Championship owner bar the parachute clubs has to put in money each year to offset the losses Championship club makes. For example Prestons owner does the same. They put the minimum in they have to to keep the club. 

Seems to be a mentality of that they are doing their bit by doing that, and the people below them are the ones to target.

I think it would be reasonable for a club in our position and run of form, having taken in what we have in transfer fees in the last few seasons to spend 10m this window.

 

I have always felt that if you want to operate a trading model then 25-35% of what you take in must be reinvested to keep it going.

 

What I think will happen is less than a million spent on 2 loan fees and they will let dolan go cheap if they can find a buyer,. We are running by cunts

Preston spent a few million on players this summer and last, and that's without selling anyone to bring in finances. Its a sad day when clubs like Preston are investing more in their playing squad than Rovers (even more so after bringing in £40m+ in sales).

From memory, I think we had beaten them 5-0 at home with that wonderful Tony Field solo goal. I know the run of form contained a Bournemouth away win, followed by a 1-0 away win at Port Vale.

Following the Vale win, there was a piece in one of the national papers, where Gordon Lee (still Vale at the time) was lavish in his praise for Tony Field.

I was still at school for the 3-1 Watford away win, which you might be remembering...

Within a few short months Field had been sold and Gordon Lee was Rovers manager.

Haven't WBA made similar budget cuts to Rovers?

Cuts, yes, but they had a much higher budget than Rovers before the cuts (as they were still receiving parachute payments at that time), and still have a higher budget than Rovers now.  As their cuts have basically brought them in line with "normal" larger * (average attendance circa 25K) Championship clubs

I would think that West Broms budget after their cuts is still higher than what Rovers budget was before any cuts were made

* Larger in terms of current attendance, not based on history etc

Manager is the most important decision you can make - well worth the compensation package.

We were discussing this after the Burnley match - the big advantage we have over most teams in this division is that we simply have a better manager. Most have better squads.

I think Eustace would be an ideal fit for WBA and I think he'd be very interested if they approached him.

Knows the Championship inside out, done well on limited resources in two jobs, still based in the Midlands.

He'd get a move to a proper club, a pay rise, a better budget, be much nearer to home and work for professionals rather than amateurs.

They'd also get the added bonus of taking us, currently a direct rival for a top 6 position, out of the equation overnight.

It seems however that they fancy the overseas head coach route which I think is a big gamble but can see why they want it with Corberan doing so well for them and their new American ownership structure.
